Mithun Chakraborty files Rs 100 crore defamation case against TMC’s Kunal Ghosh for linking his son to a rape case

The CSR Journal Magazine

Veteran actor and BJP leader Mithun Chakraborty has filed a civil defamation suit of Rs 100 crore against Trinamool Congress (TMC) spokesperson Kunal Ghosh. The case has been filed over Ghosh’s comments in the media about Mithun Chakraborty’s son. ‘The Bengal Files’ actor has specifically accused Ghosh of “falsely linking his son to a rape case”. The lawsuit also alleges that Ghosh falsely claimed Chakraborty was involved in chit fund scams and had joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to protect himself.

In reply to this, Kunal Ghosh has stated he is ready to fight the lawsuit and will ask the High Court for a CBI investigation into his allegations against Chakraborty. Ghosh said he has also filed a criminal defamation against Chakraborty at Kolkata’s Bankshall Court, alleging defamatory remarks made against him by the actor.

Earlier, Mithun Chakraborty had sent a legal notice to the Trinamool spokesperson for the comment. Not satisfied with his response, he filed a case this time seeking compensation. In this regard, Kunal, who was unmoved, retorted, “A person who has dignity, does he change parties so many times? Will see him in court. I have also filed a case against him. I will tell the court what his connection was with four or five chit funds. I will ask the CBI to investigate the whole thing.”

Mithun Chakraborty alleges he has suffered professionally due to Ghosh’s remarks

The actor alleged that Ghosh had spread the news that his son was involved in a rape case, which was not true. Kunal had even made comments about his wife alleging she was involved in financial transactions, which has been mentioned as “intentional” in the case. Mithun Chakraborty has stated that comments made by Kunal Ghosh were completely false, baseless and intentional. Such comments made publicly, have damaged his honour and social status. The BJP leader has appealed to the High Court that he should be given Rs 100 crore as compensation. Along with this, the court should order the TMC leader to refrain from making such comments.

Mithun Chakraborty further said that he is a former Rajya Sabha MP, Padma Bhushan and Dadasaheb Phalke awardee. He has faced embarrassment due to such untrue comments by Kunal Ghosh. Due to Ghosh’s comments, the work of his new films and advertisements has also been disrupted. As a result, he has suffered professionally.

The court has not yet announced the date for the hearing of Mithun’s case. However, according to lawyers, the case may be heard in court next week.
