Maharashtra: Nanded Student Appears for Class 12 Board Exam With 10-Day-Old Baby

The CSR Journal Magazine

A 21-year-old student from Nanded made headlines as she attended her Class 12 Maharashtra board Political Science exam, bringing along her 10-day-old baby. Shital Chandrakant Chitte, who is enrolled at Shri Basweshwar College, had also participated in her English exam just two days after giving birth, demonstrating her commitment to education despite her recent motherhood.

Special Arrangements by the Examination Authorities

In response to Chitte’s unique situation, the administration at People’s College implemented a mother-friendly arrangement at the examination centre. They established a ‘Matrusneh Kaksha,’ a designated room for mothers, designed with a cradle for her baby, allowing Chitte to write her papers while her newborn rested safely beside her.

Support from Family and Friends

Chitte, who has been married for two years, stated that during the day her husband is at work, leaving her without support at home for the infant. Recognizing the importance of her Class 12 exams for her future, she decided to attend all her examinations accompanied by her child, determined to not forgo this critical educational milestone. She emphasized that her family has been supportive of her decision to pursue her studies even after becoming a mother.

Recognition from Education Officials

The innovative efforts of the college did not go unnoticed. Madhav Salgar, an education officer from Nanded, expressed gratitude towards the institution for creating a special facility for Chitte during her exam.

He mentioned that future arrangements would be made at examination centres for similar situations to encourage students. Sudhakar Telang, the Latur divisional president of the Maharashtra board, noted that this initiative marked a significant first in the state.

Examinations Progressing Without Disruptions

The Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations for the Maharashtra board began on February 10 and have been running smoothly, with 861 candidates registered at the centre, as reported by officials. The provision of a mother-friendly room has facilitated the conduct of examinations without interruptions, benefiting all present students. Local administration is considering implementing similar measures in other centres to support students facing comparable challenges in future exams.

Showcasing Adaptability of Education Systems

The arrangements made in Nanded have set a precedent for how examination centres can adapt to the diverse needs of students, ensuring they are able to continue their educational pursuits without hindrance. This case exemplifies a growing recognition of the importance of accommodating different circumstances within the examination framework.
