March 18, 2025: The body of Lt Colonel Diwakar Kumar, an Army officer, was discovered in Ranchi. The body was found in the parking area of Ranchi’s Khelgaon Housing Society. The officer who died, resided in the same complex. The body Diwakar Kumar was found by local residents, prompting immediate police involvement.
Body sent for Post-mortem
The Khelgaon police station authorities arrived at the scene, where the body was discovered. Following the recovery, the body was sent for a post-mortem to determine the exact cause of death. Furthermore, preliminary findings suggest the possibility of suicide. Meanwhile, the family members revealed that Lt Colonel Kumar had been struggling with depression and was on medication. However, the police are still keeping all investigative angles open, including the possibility of an accident or any type of foul play.
Gajesh Kumar, Officer-in-Charge of Khelgaon police station stated, “We are investigating all aspects of the case to ascertain whether it was a suicide, an accident, or if there was any other involvement”.
Gone for a Walk, never returned back
The family members in their ordeal informed that the officer had gone for a walk on the building’s terrace after dinner on Monday night. His body was found the following morning. The alleged incident quickly garnered attention, with a crowd of locals and onlookers gathering at the crime scene.
A Cheerful and Sociable individual
According to reports Lt Colonel Kumar was originally from Muzaffarpur, Bihar. He was stationed at the Army office in Namkum, Ranchi. He had been on a study leave between 2022 and 2024. During this time, he pursued a Master’s degree in Journalism and Mass Communication at Ranchi University. His colleagues and fellow students described him as a cheerful and sociable individual.
However, it was during his study leave, Lt Colonel Kumar reportedly became involved in a controversy. The controversy was allegedly major that led to an internal Army inquiry. The details of the issue and inquiry are yet to be disclosed. It is also uncertain whether it had any connection to his death.
Meanwhile, the police are thoroughly investigating all aspects of the case to determine whether it was a suicide, accident.
