The annual Durga Puja celebration organised by Kolkata’s Putiyari Club is set to transcend traditional festivity with its deeply meaningful theme this year: “Dayboddho” (Committed/Responsible). Eschewing political divisions and communal barriers, the club’s rendition of the festival aims to be a grand celebration of unity and human commitment.
Beyond Festivity: The Commitment of “Dayboddho”
The core message of the Putiyari Club’s presentation is that Durga Puja is more than just dazzling lights, music, and decoration. It represents a “commitment” of unity, love, and humanity.
The organizers emphasize that their marquee will feature only one color: that of harmony, goodwill, and brotherhood. The arrival of Goddess Durga is viewed as an internal call to action—a reminder that “we are all committed” to our society, our friends, and above all, to the principles of humanity.

A Stage for Harmony
This year’s theme serves as a poignant reflection: Durga Puja is not merely about ornamentation and merriment. It is a stage where people set aside differences of religion, caste, and politics to collectively welcome the Mother Goddess.
The club highlights that alongside the bright illumination, a lamp of empathy will be lit, and the rhythmic beat of the dhak (traditional drum) will resonate with a symphony of unity.
The concept of “Dayboddho” underscores our duties and promises. The club states that while political divisions may separate us, the vibrancy of the autumn festival—like the varied colors in the clouds—must merge into a single spectrum of togetherness.
