A bomb threat to Kolkata’s Indian Museum on Tuesday led to heightened security and an urgent investigation. The anonymous email, sent by a group calling themselves “Group 1378,” warned that explosives would be planted at the museum, and a mass killing would follow. The message stated, “We will arrive at the museum on Tuesday around 1:20 pm. We will have bombs planted and will go on a mass killing.”
Enhanced security protocols were activated instantly when the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) took charge of guarding the museum and performed a systematic check of the entire facility. The bomb squad and dog unit members from Kolkata Police rapidly reached the site alongside their bomb squad to help with the search procedures.
Immediate Evacuation was Organised
Authorities organised an immediate public evacuation while closing down all museum entrances until further notice. The authorities implemented preventive measures by closing off Jawaharlal Nehru Road’s footpath by installing guardrails. The official search team checked 51 museum rooms while confirming that no suspicious materials or explosive devices were discovered.
During the bomb scan operation people watching observed that the situation could be another prank since April Fools’ Day was active. The officials displayed caution toward the situation while working to keep people protected.
Similar Incident Previously Recorded
This incident wasn’t the first bomb threat targeting the Indian Museum. Earlier in January, a similar threat had been received, claiming explosives were planted on the premises. That time, the entire museum was evacuated, and despite thorough checks, no bombs were found. The police had also received another bomb threat from a group named “Terrorizer’s 111.”
As of now, authorities are focusing on identifying the source of the email. The police are continuing their investigation to determine whether the threat was serious or another hoax.
With the situation now under control, the authorities are stressing the need for ongoing vigilance to protect the museum and its visitors from future threats.
