Jamia Millia Islamia Moves All Classes Online Amid Security Concerns

The CSR Journal Magazine

Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) has transitioned all classes to an online format effective immediately, citing current circumstances and prioritising the safety and security of its students. This decision was communicated through a notice from the Office of the Registrar on October 24, 2026, and will remain in effect until further notice. The university aims to ensure that academic activities continue uninterrupted while addressing the need for student safety.

Students will now participate in classes virtually, eliminating the need to travel to campus until the university provides updates regarding any changes to this arrangement. The notice highlights the importance of maintaining educational continuity, even in the face of challenges posed by the ongoing situation.

Precautionary Measures for Student Safety

The decision to move to online classes has been described as a precautionary measure to protect students amid the current circumstances. JMI has underscored the necessity of continuing academic activities despite the shift in teaching methods. All deans, heads of departments, directors, faculty members, and students have been instructed to adhere to the online class schedule and ensure consistent participation in academic pursuits.

This directive applies universally across all courses, indicating that no specific department or programme is exempt from the online learning mandate. However, the notice does not provide a timeline for the resumption of in-person classes, leaving students and faculty awaiting further information.

Faculty members have been tasked with making the necessary arrangements to facilitate online classes through various digital platforms. They are also expected to support students by providing essential academic resources and learning materials to assist them in their studies. The university has emphasised that it is crucial to maintain the continuity of the teaching-learning process to prevent any adverse impact on students’ academic progress.

Future of Physical Classes Remains Uncertain

As of now, Jamia Millia Islamia has not announced a date for the resumption of physical classes. The notice indicates that any further instructions or updates regarding the situation will be disseminated through the university’s official communication channels. Until such announcements are made, students and faculty members are required to comply with the online teaching arrangements.

The order was issued by Registrar Professor Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi, who has articulated that this shift is a precautionary step aimed at ensuring student safety while keeping academic activities on track. The university is committed to providing a secure learning environment, even as it navigates the complexities of the current situation.

In the interim, students are encouraged to follow the online schedule and any directives from their respective departments concerning class links, learning resources, and engagement in academic activities. The university’s proactive approach aims to safeguard the educational experience of its students during these uncertain times.
