Shah emphasised that denouncing the killing of innocent individuals is both a moral and humanitarian obligation. She remarked that abstaining from speaking out constitutes an injustice to humanity. Amnesty International Highlights Human Rights Concerns

Amnesty International USA has added to the growing chorus of concern regarding the incidents in PoJK, particularly about the reported use of lethal force by Pakistani security personnel against demonstrators in Rawalakot during the first day of regional elections. Isabelle Lassee, Amnesty International’s Acting Regional Director for South Asia, stated that the allegations align with a troubling trend in Pakistan’s history of unlawful violence against protesters in this region.

In light of these events, Lassee urged for a prompt, independent, and transparent investigation into the actions of security forces. She also highlighted the significance of restoring internet and mobile communications, claiming that the ongoing blackout obstructs independent verification of the reported events and calls for unrestricted access for both media and independent observers.

Amnesty International further pointed to the heightened tensions surrounding the regional election, attributing some of this unrest to a ban imposed on the Jammu and Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC). The organisation reiterated its demand for the Pakistani authorities to lift this ban, arguing that the use of anti-terror laws to suppress or arbitrarily detain JAAC members and supporters is unjustified and should not serve as a rationale for employing deadly force against protesters.
