IAEA Warns Iran of Sanctions for not Complying to Nuclear Obligations

The Board of Governors of IAEA, the United Nations nuclear watchdog, formally declared that Iran isn’t complying with its nuclear obligations for the first time in 20 years. On Thursday, IAEA said that this move could lead to further tension and restoration of sanctions by the United Nations on Tehran by the end of this year.
Iran reacted immediately to the statement and said that it will establish a new enrichment facility in a secure location, and that other measures are also in place.

“Islamic Republic of Iran has no choice but to respond to this political resolution,” said the Iranian Foreign Ministry and the Atomic Energy Organisation of Iran.

US Warns Iran

The President of United States has previously warned that Israel or America could carry out airstrikes targeting Iranian nuclear facilities if negotiations between the two countries fail. Some American personnel and their families have started to leave the region over the rising tension after the conclusion of a new round of Iran–US talks held on Sunday in Oman.

The US Embassy ordered the government employees and their families to remain in Tel Aviv, Israel, over security concerns.
The International Atomic Energy Agency’s board consists of 19 countries which represent the agency’s member nations. All of these 19 voted for the resolution on Iran, where Russia, China, and Burkina Faso opposed the resolution against Iran, 11 abstained from voting. According to the draft resolution (as recorded by the Associated Press), the governors renewed a call on Iran to provide answers without delay in a long-running investigation into uranium enrichment found at several locations. These are the locations which Tehran has failed to declare as nuclear sites.
