A 63-year-old artificial insemination specialist from Vaheval village in Gujarat is making significant strides in the dairy sector, impacting the livelihoods of local dairy farmers through scientific breeding techniques. Deepak Patel has devoted decades to artificial insemination (AI), playing a pivotal role in enhancing cattle productivity and improving economic conditions for farmers in the Mahuva area. Since beginning his work in AI after relocating from Delhi in 1999, Patel has successfully conducted over 80,000 insemination procedures, achieving an impressive success rate of approximately 80 percent, which stands out in the field of livestock breeding. His contributions are key to advancing cattle genetics and increasing milk production within the region.

Artificial insemination is recognized as a fundamental technique in contemporary dairy farming, enabling farmers to access high-quality cattle genetics without the necessity of maintaining costly breeding bulls. Pandey emphasized his longstanding passion for the discipline and shared that he has been instrumental in training professionals such as Patel to promote scientific methods in dairy farming. “We have trained individuals like Deepak in this field. I have authored a book on breeding techniques and the critical importance of enhancing livestock quality. I take pride in the work we have accomplished and the individuals who continue this mission,” Pandey stated.
