The CSR Journal Magazine

The author of the famous essay, ‘The Transfeminist Manifesto’, Emi Koyama, is a genius! Emi is a Japanese American Activist, artist and independent scholar. Koyama’s work discusses issues of feminism, domestic violence, sex work and intersex human rights.

She is best known for her essay ‘The Trans Feminist Manifesto’, written in the year 2000 and later republished in many journals across the globe.

The text discusses transgender individuals and their involvement in their community in feminist activism. In short, her work advocates for more inclusivity in the feminist movement through an intersectional approach.

The 50-year-old activist lives in Portland, Oregon, with her two dogs. Her daily life is simple and involves writing on issues of social justice on her blog, Eminism and operating an online store where she sells apparel and other related items designed by her and other of her activist colleagues

Emi has been an advocate of third-wave feminism and trans feminism. Transfeminism is a movement for trans women, which ultimately leads to the liberation of all women. She is also an advocate of the decriminalisation of sex work, which many other activists also object to.
