Delivery Boy Posing as Army Officer Drugs & Rapes Doctor He Met Online in Delhi

The CSR Journal Magazine

A 27-year-old doctor working at Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital was allegedly raped by a man who posed as an Indian Army officer after befriending her on social media. The accused, identified as Aarav Malik, a delivery executive for an e-commerce platform, was arrested after a police raid in the Chhatarpur area.

According to police officials, Malik came into contact with the doctor on Instagram between April 30 and September 27. Pretending to be Lieutenant Aarav Singh, he claimed to be posted in Jammu and Kashmir and sent her photographs of himself wearing an army uniform to make his identity seem authentic. The two reportedly stayed in touch over WhatsApp for several months.

Food Spiked at Victim’s Residence

Police said the accused later visited the woman’s residence in the Masjid Moth area earlier this month. During the visit, he allegedly spiked her food and sexually assaulted her while she was unconscious. After regaining consciousness, the doctor lodged a complaint at the Safdarjung Enclave Police Station on October 16.

The police launched a swift investigation, conducting raids in multiple locations across Chhatarpur before apprehending Malik. Upon questioning, he confessed to buying the army uniform online from a store in the Delhi Cantonment area to carry out his deception.

Fake Identity, Deception and Arrest

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) said a case has been registered against Malik under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including those pertaining to rape, cheating, and criminal intimidation. Preliminary investigation confirmed that the accused had no connection with the Indian Army and was working as a delivery person for Amazon.

Officials are now verifying whether the accused used similar tactics to deceive other women through social media platforms. Police have also recovered the fake military uniform used to commit the crime.

Recent Cases Raise Concerns Over Women’s Safety

This case follows another recent incident of sexual assault involving a doctor in Maharashtra’s Satara district, where a woman doctor died by suicide after alleging prolonged sexual harassment by a police officer. The twin incidents have reignited concerns about women’s safety and online deception crimes in India’s major cities.
