Delhi School of Journalism Director Recorded Saying to Students ‘Joote Se Peetunga’

Inside the Delhi School of Journalism (DSJ), a group of students appealed to the institute’s director to provide more facilities, citing exorbitant fees being charged. In the response, the DSG director, Professor Bharati Ghore, said to students: “Joote Se Peetunga, Keep quiet” (I’ll hit you with my shoe. Keep quiet.). However, the director of the institute has denied these claims.
The incident took place on Tuesday after a few students approached Ghore around 2 PM. The students were complaining about the lack of academic activities and infrastructure on campus, despite the high fee. As per the 2024-25 fee structure of DSJ, the annual fee for first-year students for the five-year integrated program in journalism and master’s of journalism is around ₹80,000. For the second, third. fourth and fifth years, the fee is ₹70,000.
The students have called for a protest against the director and authorities on Thursday and have also invited the university students’ union president to stand in their support.
This is not the first instance of students raising concerns about the lack of facilities inside DSJ. In 2018, two students protested and as a result, classes were suspended for a few days.
