Delhi Pollution Control Committee New Plan Makes Technology a Priority

The Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) will soon come up with technology-based solutions to counter pollution, like the launch of an app or software that will analyse real-time pollution and an online inspection module for officers. This will be a digital helpdesk to assist citizens in filing complaints in the most effective and convenient manner. Alongside, there will be arrangements made for drone surveillance to monitor industries and drains. Data from various state recognised laboratories will also help DPCC in its mission to fight pollution in Delhi.

The Proposed Plan

This plan was decided during the 74th board meeting on February 13, where the DPCC reviewed all necessary actions. The board concluded that using technology for pollution monitoring will be a priority. The meeting also decided to include the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) and government college laboratories to expand the data network.
Currently, the DPCC operates inside a lab in the ISBT building where wastewater, water, air, and noise parameters are separately analysed. But, the government pollution control agency faces problems with tight deadlines in various matters. For example, in August 2024, the Supreme Court issued a directive stating that all vacant positions inside DPCC must be filled by April 30, 2025. However, this deadline is difficult for the DPCC to meet, which is accelerating its recruitment efforts by using UPSC hiring, CPCB waitlist and bringing in contracted staff.
