The Delhi government has announced the establishment of its own State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) to enhance emergency response capabilities. This decision follows the tragic collapse of a building in Satya Niketan , which resulted in the loss of seven lives and numerous injuries. The initiative aims to expedite rescue and relief operations in the city.

During a recent high-level meeting with officials from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), plans were discussed regarding the creation of a dedicated SDRF unit specifically for the national capital. The proposed battalion is expected to comprise approximately 1,100 trained personnel who will be equipped to handle various emergencies.

The government emphasises that the SDRF will provide a swift local response to disasters, reinforcing the immediate availability of trained professionals in emergencies. This initiative is anticipated to significantly improve the current emergency response infrastructure within Delhi.

Training and Specialised Preparedness

The SDRF personnel will undergo specialised training focused on disaster management and rescue operations. This training will enable responders to act promptly and effectively in crises without the necessity of waiting for external agencies to arrive.
