The Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) released a statement on Thursday regarding a viral video that raised hygiene concerns about a soft drink vendor at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. The clip, which was shared widely on social media platforms, depicted the vendor seemingly refilling bottles with previously served drinks during a recent match, prompting spectators to question the quality and safety of the refreshments available at the venue.
DDCA Calls it “waste segregation”
In its official response, the DDCA acknowledged the circulation of the video and aimed to clarify the activities shown. The association indicated that the behavior depicted in the footage had been misunderstood. They asserted that the vendor in the video was associated with an authorized concessionaire operating in compliance with established guidelines and standard practices for event management.
The DDCA further explained that the vendor was not refilling bottles for resale; rather, the action involved the disposal of unused beverages. According to the statement, the vendor was engaged in the process of waste segregation, where unused beverages were poured back into the bottle as part of the proper waste disposal protocol. The association emphasized that this process was aligned with the venue’s waste management standards.
To reinforce its commitment to hygiene and cleanliness, the DDCA insisted that stringent protocols are maintained across all venues under its jurisdiction. The specific vendor under scrutiny was said to be serving Coca-Cola products, adhering to commercial agreements and operational regulations laid out for food service at the stadium.
Moreover, the DDCA made it clear that the bottles seen in the controversial video were handled responsibly, ensuring they were not returned to service for resale. This clarification comes amidst growing concerns from fans regarding food and beverage practices at cricket stadiums, where pricing and health standards have been frequently discussed.
