Conflict Erupts Between Northeast Students and Locals at Andhra Nursing College

The CSR Journal Magazine

The recent clash at SK College of Nursing in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, originated from an alleged dispute over a missing mobile phone belonging to a student from the Northeast. This confrontation broke out on 21 August 2026, involving students from the Northeast, including those from Manipur, and local Telugu-speaking students.

The situation escalated significantly, prompting local officials to intervene. The District Collector and Superintendent of Police were dispatched to the scene to mediate and restore order among the students. Their actions became crucial in preventing further unrest at the college.

Student Relocation Measures

Following the escalation of tensions between the two groups, a decision was made to relocate students from the Northeast to separate accommodations. As a precautionary measure, 31 students from other states also agreed to move to a different hostel to ensure safety for all involved.

The district administration took comprehensive steps to secure the safety of students amidst the unrest. Local authorities assured students that protective measures would remain in place as long as needed. The intervention of senior officials was pivotal in managing the situation effectively.

According to sources from the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister’s Office, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu took a keen interest in the unfolding events. Following his review, he instructed officials to act swiftly to ensure the safety and well-being of the students. Action was taken immediately, with students expressing relief at the new arrangements made for them.

Reactions and Statements from Officials

After being relocated, students from Manipur expressed gratitude to the authorities for their prompt response. In communication after the incident, they confirmed their safety and acknowledged the swift actions taken by the administration to secure them.

N Biren Singh, a former Chief Minister of Manipur, highlighted the issue on social media. He communicated with Andhra Pradesh’s Chief Minister’s Office, receiving assurance about the safety of the students, including the stationing of a female Sub-Inspector for added security during the night.

Singh extended his thanks to Naidu for the timely intervention, acknowledging the importance of the swift response in alleviating fears among the students and their families.

Current Status of the Situation

Local authorities reported that the situation has now been resolved and is under control. Students have conveyed their satisfaction with the actions of the district administration and police, indicating that they feel secure following the intervention.

The Chief Minister’s Office confirmed that the matter has been addressed amicably and effectively, with students from the northeastern states engaging positively with local law enforcement and administrative officials. Measures are still in place to prevent any further escalations at the hostel.

While the immediate focus remains on ensuring the ongoing safety of all students at the college, officials are optimistic that relations can be repaired and tensions mitigated in the longer term. The intervention has led to a greater awareness of the need for measures to protect students in educational institutions.
