CSR initiative ‘2024 Heritage Awareness through Mud Fort Making Competition’ hosted at Thane

Heritage Awareness through Mud Fort Making Competition
Thane, India: In a vibrant celebration of Maharashtra’s cultural heritage, Kalpataru, a leading real estate developer, supported Killekars’, dedicated efforts in preserving State’s historic forts. Under Kalpataru’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, series of workshops were organised to create awareness on Forts of Maharashtra, of which the ‘2024 Mud Fort Making Competition’ held especially for students was held at Korum Mall, Thane. This CSR project aimed to promote heritage awareness, engage the community, and foster environmental responsibility.
The competition brought together students from local schools and residents of housing societies as part of the Thane Smart City initiative, encouraging them to participate in the ancient craft of mud fort-making. The activity sought to revive this traditional art form, which has gradually diminished with the rise of technology and digital entertainment. Through hands-on participation, the project aimed to reignite interest in Maharashtra’s heritage and inspire younger generations to embrace local traditions.
A detailed replica of the iconic Raigad Fort—the capital of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s Maratha Empire—was created within the mall, attracting significant public engagement and disseminating information on the preservation & conservation of Forts in Maharashtra. This installation paid tribute to the 351st anniversary of the coronation ceremony of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and provided a meaningful way for visitors to connect with Maharashtra’s history.
“Through this initiative, we aim to rekindle interest in Maharashtra’s rich heritage and create a meaningful connection with our roots while creating awareness about safeguarding our monuments for the future generations. We believe in building more than just spaces—we build legacies, and this activity aligns with our commitment to safe, timeless, and sustainable communities,” said Anagha Poojari, CSR Head, Kalpataru Limited
The event also promoted environmental responsibility, focusing on waste management, cleanliness, and sustainability. By involving children and local residents in creative activities, it encouraged participants to adopt sustainable practices and develop a sense of environmental awareness
The partnership between Kalpataru and Killekars reflects their shared commitment to preserving the cultural significance of Maharashtra’s forts. This initiative exemplifies Kalpataru’s philosophy of giving back to the community while keeping traditions alive, providing opportunities for people to come together and celebrate in meaningful ways.
The enthusiastic response from participants at Korum Mall highlighted the power of community-driven initiatives to foster connections and preserve heritage. Such ensure that Maharashtra’s cultural traditions remain vibrant and relevant, allowing them to be passed down to future generations.

CSR Project Jalvaibhav 2.0 launched in Kolar, Karnataka

CSR Project Jalvaibhav 2.0 launched in Kolar
Kolar, India: L&T Finance Ltd. (LTF), one of the leading Non-Banking Financial Companies (NBFCs) in the country, announces the launch of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project, ‘Jalvaibhav 2.0’, in the Mulbagal Taluk of Kolar district, Karnataka. The initiative focuses on integrated water resource management to create additional water harvesting capacity, benefiting over 5,000 farmers across 12 villages.
The Jalvaibhav 2.0 project addresses water scarcity and soil health improvement through various initiatives, such as replenishing existing and new water resources, promoting climate-smart agri, and allied interventions. These efforts will directly impact farmers’ income levels while spreading awareness and training on sustainable practices.
Speaking at the launch, Ms. Apurva Rathod, Company Secretary & Chief Sustainability Officer at LTF, said, “At LTF, we aim to empower marginalised farmers in rural communities by fostering sustainable livelihoods and enhancing the ecosystem. Our Jalvaibhav project, started in 2015-16, has been designed to tackle water scarcity and the adverse effects of climate change in Marathwada, and surrounding areas. The initiative aimed to increase water availability and soil moisture while promoting sustainable practices through education and training. As we enter the second phase of this initiative with the launch of Jalvaibhav 2.0, we are taking a pivotal step towards ensuring a water-secure and climate-resilient future. By collaborating closely with the local community, we have implemented this project to create a lasting impact, safeguarding the welfare of our farmers and contributing to the overall growth and development of the region.”
Mulbagal Taluk, located in the Kolar district, has a semi-arid climate with hot summers and scant rainfall, characterised by an average annual rainfall of 760 mm over 50 days. The region’s over-reliance on groundwater has led to severe agricultural challenges, including poor soil quality, erratic monsoon patterns, and frequent dry spells. This has resulted in rapid depletion of groundwater levels, aggravating the existing agricultural issues and highlighting the need to address the three critical components of drought-proofing: ensuring water availability, optimising water use, and securing water entitlements.
In 2015-16, L&T Finance implemented the Jalvaibhav project in rural Maharashtra’s Marathwada region. The project covered 122 villages and benefitted 60,000 farmers, across Osmanabad, Latur, Solapur, Aurangabad, Jalna, and Buldhana districts.
Apart from the Project Prakruti initiative, LTF has been involved in several CSR initiatives in the areas of digital and financial inclusion, disaster management, climate impact management, social inclusion amongst others. In FY24, the Digital Sakhi project in Karnataka, Kerala, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal equipped 7,500 women entrepreneurs with essential entrepreneurship and development skills, along with hand-holding support for establishing micro enterprises. Additionally, immediate relief support was provided to 69,400 beneficiaries affected by floods in Punjab, Haryana, Odisha, and Tamil Nadu. Medical facilities were extended to 2,000 train accident victims in Balasore, Odisha, LTF’s partnership with Mumbai police enhanced road safety and traffic management. Additionally, Road Safety campaign for 2-wheelers is being implemented in Delhi NCR.

‘Green Environment Together’ CSR Initiative achieves a significant milestone in its sustainability vision by planting 50,000 trees in 5 years
Reaffirming its commitment to environmental sustainability, Canon India announced the successful plantation of 50,000 trees under its ‘Green Environment Together’ (GET) initiative. Launched in July 2019, the GET Initiative represents a significant step towards fostering a greener future. Through this program, Canon India plants a tree for every laser copier or multi-function device (MFD) sold to its direct customers.
Since its inception, Canon India committed to planting over 10,000 trees annually. Staying true to this commitment, the company has planted 50,000 saplings in five years. Each tree represents the trust that customers have in Canon’s high-quality laser copier based Multifunctional Printers. Additionally, in 2020, the Environmental Committee of Canon Inc. (Japan) honored the GET Initiative for its contributions to environmental sustainability.
Commenting on this milestone, Mr. Toshiaki Nomura, President & CEO, Canon India, said, “At Canon India, the spirit of giving back to society is deeply embedded in our corporate values. Alongside delivering world-class products and services, we have remained committed to safeguarding the environment and fostering the holistic development of communities on the lines of our corporate philosophy of ‘Kyosei’. The certificates issued to customers will continue to include a QR code, which, when scanned, directs them to a virtual forest page. Foundation of a Leading Bank launches rural livelihood project in Madhya Pradesh
Axis Bank Foundation (ABF) and Action for Social Advancement (ASA) announced the launch of the Sustainable Livelihood Programme (SLP) in Madhya Pradesh to enhance livelihood of 60,000 rural households, predominantly small landholders who belong to tribal and marginalized groups. The programme will span across 350+ villages in six districts namely – Jhabua, Alirajpur, Badwani, Shahdol, Anuppur, and Umaria. This 5-year long initiative aims to empower the rural communities in the region with comprehensive livelihood enhancement strategies focused on agriculture, natural resource development, and community institution building.
This partnership builds upon the multi-stakeholder model, adopted during the previous phase of the programme 2017-2021, to further develop stable and sustainable water resources and agriculture production systems, and build resilience against climate change risks. The project will develop a strong agriculture value chain (AVC) of sustainable products and leverage the existing linkages with collectives such as Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) and Self-Help Groups (SHGs) through government schemes to create a multiplier effect in the local rural economy. This programme will build on the success of the previous phase that positively impacted over 55,000 rural households across Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
Key highlights of the programme includes –
– Enhancing income generating opportunities for 60,000 rural households through improved agriculture practices, development of natural resources (land, water, trees), and promotion of horticulture
– Building strong agricultural value chains by expanding farmers’ collectives and developing market intelligence for sustainable and organic products such as cotton, with enhanced technology-based traceability systems
– Strengthening community institutions, including SHGs, Producers’ Groups, and Gram Panchayats, to ensure sustainable practices and governance
– Facilitating convergence with government schemes for financial resources and technical support to drive long-term rural development
Commemorating the launch of the project, Ms. Dhruvi Shah, Executive Trustee & CEO of Axis Bank Foundation, said, “Our collaboration with ASA marks a pivotal step in prioritizing a deeper understanding of the best practices for agriculture to empower local institutions and equip communities with the knowhow, tools and access to become self-reliant while also shape an ecosystem that secures economic stability. Drawing learnings from the previous phase of the project in the region, we are together cultivating hope for long-term transformation, ensuring that farmers and their extended local communities are positioned to thrive well in the future.”
Ms. G. Jayanthi, Director of Action for Social Advancement, said, “At ASA, we harmonize People, Nature, and Economy within agricultural ecosystems to cultivate a thriving Regenerative Production Landscape. In this new initiative, our Livelihood Enhancement Model aims to strengthen both the physical assets of our communities—such as land, water, and trees—and their essential social capital, including institutions, skills, and market connections. By enhancing productive agricultural assets, we provide households with a consistent income, empowering them to break the cycle of poverty and embrace sustainable growth. Strengthening farmer collectives ensures this momentum continues long after the project’s conclusion. Together, ABF and ASA are laying the groundwork for a brighter, more prosperous future in marginalized areas, paving the way for demand-driven development.”
Axis Bank Foundation and ASA are committed to make a lasting impact on rural livelihoods in Madhya Pradesh. This phase will continue to build on the successes of Phase I, ensuring that communities are equipped with the resources, knowledge, and support they need to prosper sustainably.

CSR: Anil Agarwal Foundation Partners with Government of Goa to Create a Rabies Free State

CSR: Anil Agarwal Foundation Partners with Government of Goa to Create a Rabies Free State
The Anil Agarwal Foundation (AAF), the social impact arm of Vedanta, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Sankhali Municipal Council, Government of Goa, aimed at making the state rabies-free. This initiative will be realized through AAF’s flagship animal welfare project, The Animal Care Organization (TACO), which will establish a state-of-the-art animal welfare centre in Bicholim Taluka.
This centre will be situated on two acres of land provided by the Sankhali Municipal Council and is a significant step toward eradicating rabies and enhancing animal welfare services throughout the region. The project will be rolled out in phases, starting with an Animal Birth Control (ABC) centre that will offer spaying and neutering services for stray dogs and cats, alongside essential anti-rabies vaccination drives.
The Govt of Goa has been consistently putting efforts in curbing rabies, the need for which arose due to the rising stray dog population, presenting challenges for both the community and the welfare of the strays.  As per the 20th livestock census, there was a 70.68% rise in stray dogs to 27,864 in Goa, as compared to the previous census. Stray dogs often post public health risks by spreading diseases like rabies and causing injuries. Attacks on humans, particularly children and the elderly have been reported. By effectively managing the stray animal population, TACO aims to complement the state’s efforts to achieve a rabies-free Goa.
The ABC centre by TACO will feature dedicated pre-operative and post-operative care areas, ensuring safe procedures and comprehensive recovery for animals. Following this, the centre will expand to include a fully equipped veterinary hospital with an Outpatient Department (OPD), Operating Theatres (OT), and advanced diagnostic services, ensuring that animals receive the best possible medical care.
In addition, the animal welfare centre will house a training facility designed to promote knowledge-sharing and capacity-building among veterinarians, para-vets, animal welfare enthusiasts, NGO partners, and local communities. This initiative empowers individuals to take active roles in animal care and well-being, reinforcing our commitment to a preventive approach to health.
Dr. Pramod Sawant, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Goa, highlighted the transformative nature of this collaboration, stating, “I am pleased to know that the Sankhali Municipal Council has signed an MoU today with the Anil Agarwal Foundation, to address issues concerning the welfare of stray dogs and cattle as well as other health related concerns. As part of this initiative, the Sankhali Municipal Council will provide a dedicated shelter for conducting sterilization procedures for stray cattle. This program will also include care and treatment for stray dogs and cats, with facilities for birth control measures. I urge other municipalities and communities to follow this example and provide the necessary spaces to facilitate such efforts. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the Anil Agarwal Foundation for pioneering this significant initiative, the first of its kind in Goa. By coming together, we can create a more comprehensive approach to animal welfare across the state.’
Priya Agarwal Hebbar, Chairperson of Hindustan Zinc Ltd and Non-Executive Director of Vedanta Ltd, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the importance of community involvement: “We are proud to partner with the Government of Goa in establishing a comprehensive animal welfare centre. This initiative exemplifies our unwavering commitment to advancing animal healthcare and fostering community-led change across India. Together, we aspire to create a sustainable model that benefits both animals and the communities that support them. Our collective vision is to make Goa a rabies-free state, and we are determined to see this project through.”
The establishment of the animal welfare centre reflects TACO’s dedication to a holistic ‘One Health’ approach, recognizing the interconnected health of animals, people, and the environment. This initiative builds on TACO’s extensive efforts across India, including projects in Haryana, Rajasthan, and Assam, focusing on sterilization, vaccination, wildlife conservation, and establishing shelters and veterinary care programs.
