Bihar to Establish Model Schools for NEET, JEE Preparation; Applications Open

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Bihar government is set to introduce one Adarsh Madhyamik Vidyalaya, or model school, in each block of the state as part of a new educational initiative. This program aims to commence Class 9 in these institutions starting from the 2026-27 academic year, providing enhanced educational opportunities for students in both rural and urban environments. The initiative is part of a broader strategy to improve access to quality education.

Entrance Exam for Admission Scheduled

To secure a place in these model schools, students must pass an entrance examination slated for March 11. Admission will be granted based on a merit list derived from the results of this examination. The selection process aims to be transparent and equitable for all applicants. Online applications for the entrance test will be accepted until February 20, following an extension by the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT). The original deadline was February 15, but the extension was implemented to accommodate more applicants.

Focus on Saat Nishchay-3 Program

This initiative is a key component of the government’s Saat Nishchay-3 program, targeting the establishment of model schools in a total of 534 blocks throughout Bihar. The principal aim is to equip students to systematically prepare for competitive examinations such as NEET, JEE, and Olympiads, beginning with the ninth grade. Each model school will feature experienced educators and subject specialists to enhance the learning experience.

Facilities and Features of Model Schools

Students enrolled in these schools will benefit from advanced facilities, including smart classrooms, modern libraries, and state-of-the-art laboratories. The program will incorporate regular test series and achievement analyses to monitor student progress. Additionally, doubt resolution sessions and personalized career counseling will be available to guide students in their academic endeavors and future career paths.

Improving Quality of Education

The state government has stated that this new initiative aims to provide quality education and competitive exam preparation directly at the rural and block levels. By utilizing technology in lessons, the model schools will ensure that students have access to current resources and information, essential for their advancement into higher education and career readiness.

Widening Participation and Bridging Educational Gaps

By extending the application deadline, the government emphasizes its commitment to ensuring that every student has the opportunity to apply without the pressure of time constraints. SCERT has responded to this directive to encourage greater participation among potential candidates. The model schools are designed to bridge educational disparities between urban and rural students, enabling talented individuals to access high-quality coaching and facilities.

Academic Session Planning

The academic year for the newly admitted students is scheduled to commence in 2026-27, providing ample time for curriculum planning and preparations by the educational authorities. This initiative reflects the government’s focus on systematic educational reform at the block level, particularly aimed at bolstering support for secondary students as they approach competitive exams.
