Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary convened a significant review meeting at the ‘Sankalp’ auditorium on September 22 to evaluate the progression of substantial infrastructure and welfare initiatives under the ‘Bihar Gati’ scheme, alongside other centrally sponsored and state-based programmes.

The total budget for these projects exceeds Rs 100 crore. During this meeting, the Chief Minister underscored the need to expedite ongoing development efforts while maintaining rigorous quality standards and adhering to set timelines through coordinated interdepartmental oversight and frequent monitoring.

Among the key departments assessed were Road Construction, Water Resources, Industries, and Social Welfare. During the session, department heads presented updates on their current projects to the Chief Minister, facilitating a comprehensive understanding of the status and challenges faced.

Integrated Manufacturing Cluster in Gaya to Launch Soon

In reviewing the industrial development efforts, the Chief Minister specifically instructed the Industries Department to ensure the operationalisation of the Integrated Manufacturing Cluster (IMC) in Gaya by the second week of October. This facility is part of the Amritsar-Kolkata Industrial Corridor and is expected to draw an estimated Rs 20,000 crore in investments into the state. Officials were prompted to expedite the construction of necessary support infrastructure to meet the deadline.

Furthermore, the Chief Minister inspected ongoing programs within the Social Welfare Department and Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS). He placed a strong emphasis on the timely release of pending payments for Anganwadi workers and other frontline personnel ahead of the Durga Puja festival. He reiterated the importance of ensuring that the intended beneficiaries of women and child development schemes receive their benefits without unnecessary administrative delays.

Additionally, the Chief Minister demanded a detailed strategy from the Road Construction Department for widening essential routes, notably the Sultanganj-Tarapur-Sangrampur-Belhar-Katoria-Chandan-Dardmara stretch. The intention is to upgrade this road to a four-lane highway, accommodating anticipated increases in traffic.

Advancements in Urban Water Supply and Clean Energy Initiatives

The review included discussions regarding urban water supply initiatives in Aurangabad, Sasaram, and Dehri that are reliant on the Sone River’s surface water. The Chief Minister expressed the importance of ensuring efficient provision of potable water to citizens and instructed that no delays should occur in these critical projects.

Moreover, the Water Resources Department received directives to hasten the construction of a barrage on the Kamla River in Jaynagar, Madhubani district. This project aims to facilitate timely irrigation benefits for the local agricultural community.

The meeting also addressed potential clean energy ventures. The Chief Minister tasked officials with conducting a feasibility study and developing a comprehensive action plan for solarising canals and river embankments throughout South Bihar. The emphasis on renewable energy aligns with the state’s broader environmental sustainability goals.

Attending the meeting were Principal Secretary to the CM Deepak Kumar, Development Commissioner Mihir Kumar Singh, and Additional Chief Secretary for Environment, Forest & Climate Change Anand Kishore, along with several other senior officials from various departments. This collaborative effort aims to bolster development across multiple sectors within the state.
