The recent murder case of Merchant Navy officer Saurabh Rajput in Meerut, has left netizens shocked. A woman named Muskaan Rastogi intoxicated her husband Saurabh and stabbed him to death with support of her boyfriend Sahil Shukla on March 4 this year. The duo then dismembered the victim’s body and packed it in a blue drum filled with wet cement. The gruesome murder case has given birth to a new fear among citizens about the blue drum.
Blue drums, a common hardware item, which are widely used for storing and transporting goods, are being seen as containers for hiding dead bodies of murder victims after this case. Meme videos showing Indian husbands as potential victims of the blue drum have started trending on social media!
Blue drum sale declines in Aligarh
So much is the fear that, in UP’s Aligarh, the sale of blue drums has significantly decreased because people fear that they may be subjected to ridicule by neighbours if they purchase a blue drum! Customers now associate drums with the horrifying incident, leading to a severe decline in sales.
The drum market in Aligarh’s Rasalganj is witnessing a considerable drop in sales. According to a shopkeeper, sales have plummeted from 40-50 drums to just 15 in the past one month.
