Pankaj, a local developer known for his AI projects, shared images and a video demonstration of the modified device, showcasing how it performs various digital tasks. The transformation involved using a Raspberry Pi along with other affordable components, culminating in a project cost of approximately Rs 2,000.

Pankaj explained that his motivation for this project stemmed from a desire to move away from conventional digital interfaces. He aimed to create something unique and nostalgic. By simply picking up the rotary handset and saying “Hey Kiri,” users can command the AI assistant to carry out functions such as summoning a cab, organizing meetings, ordering food, controlling smart home devices, and even summarizing emails. On appearance, the device resembles a classic 1970s telephone, but it contains a sophisticated AI system within.

The developer noted that the project’s charm lies in its inconspicuous design—making it a conversation piece on his desk while seamlessly integrating with modern technology. He shared in his video that the AI assistant is capable and user-friendly. Although Pankaj mentioned he created this device primarily for enjoyment, he has expressed curiosity about whether there would be interest in a tutorial on how to create one. He humorously remarked about its “stupid fun” factor, inviting viewers to witness the functionality despite what he referred to as a “bad demo.”

Recently, he unveiled an AI monitoring system, which he implemented to address concerns regarding his cook allegedly taking fruits from the refrigerator. He humorously referred to this system as his “AI roommate” that aids in household management.
