In a troubling incident during Ram Navami celebrations, nearly 60 individuals fell ill after consuming prasad in the Bengaluru Rural district. Authorities reported the occurrence on Sunday, stating that around 400 people had partaken of the consecrated food on Saturday.

As the night progressed, numerous attendees began experiencing symptoms such as stomach pain, nausea, and diarrhea. Emergency response was initiated in the early hours of Sunday, leading to several individuals being transported to local medical facilities.

Bengaluru Rural District Health Officer Lakka Krishna Reddy confirmed that 60 individuals exhibited illness during the night. Following medical intervention, all affected individuals were reported to be stable. A total of 46 people were admitted to the Primary Health Centre (PHC) located in Devanahalli, while others were taken to a nearby private hospital for further treatment.

In light of this incident, senior health officials quickly mobilized to the area after receiving notifications of the illness. Teams collected samples of the temple prasad for scientific analysis, which will be conducted at the Forensic Science Laboratory. This testing aims to determine the underlying cause of the health issues reported among the devotees.

This incident raises concerns regarding food safety practices at religious gatherings, especially during festive occasions when large groups come together to partake in religious rituals. Health officials remind the public about the importance of ensuring that food, particularly offered in such contexts, is handled with care and prepared safely.

The authorities have begun an investigation to ascertain the specific reasons behind the reported illnesses, as the situation remains a priority for public health management in the region. The health department is also expected to implement measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

This incident has not only affected the individuals who fell ill but has also caused concern among the local community about hygiene practices concerning temple offerings. Officials are urging the need for heightened awareness and adherence to food safety protocols during community gatherings.

The community remains hopeful for a swift resolution and an improvement in food safety measures to ensure the health and safety of all participants at religious events. Updates regarding the health status of the individuals affected and the results of ongoing investigations are expected to follow as more information becomes available.
