Apple Introduces Budget-Friendly MacBook Neo: Features and Pricing Detailed

The CSR Journal Magazine

Apple has announced the launch of the MacBook Neo, marking its first entry into the budget laptop segment tailored for cost-conscious consumers. The new model is priced starting at Rs 69,900, significantly less than the MacBook Air, which is being updated concurrently at a starting price of Rs 1,19,900. The MacBook Neo had been the subject of speculation leading up to its release, with Apple’s documentation inadvertently revealing its branding shortly before the official introduction. This product aims to enhance Apple’s footprint in educational and household markets, which have been dominated by more affordable Windows laptops and Chromebooks.

Specifications and Features of MacBook Neo

The MacBook Neo stands out not just for its affordability but also for its vibrant color options. Inspired by designs from the iMac and iPad Air, the Neo is offered in shades such as Indigo, Citrus, and Blush, in addition to the classic Silver. Despite its lower price, Apple maintains a premium aesthetic with a sleek enclosure made from 100 percent recycled aluminum, adopting a fanless design similar to the MacBook Air. The device features a 12.9-inch Retina display, although it does not include the high-refresh ProMotion technology found in its pricier counterparts.

Performance and Battery Life

A significant highlight of the MacBook Neo is its use of the A18 Pro chip, previously seen only in the iPhone 16 Pro, deviating from the usual M-series chips found in other MacBook models. This choice allows the laptop to deliver an impressive battery life of up to 20 hours, enabling effective multitasking capabilities supported by 8GB of unified memory. The A18 Pro chip offers enhanced capabilities for web browsing, 4K video streaming, and integration with Apple’s artificial intelligence features. However, to maintain its lower pricing, certain features have been omitted, such as a backlit keyboard and the MagSafe charging port, resulting in a configuration that includes just two USB-C ports and a baseline storage of 256GB.

Availability and Pricing in India

Pre-orders for the MacBook Neo have commenced on Apple’s official website, with the device set to be available for purchase starting from March 11, 2026. The introduction of this model signifies Apple’s strategic move to cater to a broader audience while still delivering quality products within a competitive price range.
