Apoorva Mukhija, widely known as ‘The Rebel Kid’ on social media, has become the centre of a major controversy after her appearance on Samay Raina’s ‘India’s Got Latent’ show. Alongside YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, Mukhija faced backlash for a segment where Allahbadia made inappropriate comments about watching one’s parents having sex. While Allahbadia has been the main target of criticism, Mukhija has not been spared from severe online abuse, including sexual assault and death threats.

Rida Tharana condemns threat to Apoorva

In response to the online hate, Mukhija’s close friend, content creator Rida Tharana, expressed her anger at the hateful remarks targeting Apoorva. Tharana posted on social media condemning the cruelty faced by women, stating that some individuals hate women simply for existing and daring to grow. She described the ongoing threats and harassment as “unfair,” hoping that no one would ever have to experience what Apoorva is going through.

IIFA Drops Apoorva Mukhija Over Controversy

As the controversy intensified, Mukhija faced professional consequences as well. The social media influencer, who was set to participate as an ambassador for the prestigious International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) awards in Jaipur, was removed from the list. This decision came in the wake of threats made by the Rajput Karni Sena, a right-wing group, who opposed Mukhija’s involvement.

Dr. Paramveer Singh Dulawat, a leader of the Karni Sena in Udaipur, declared that they would take severe action against her and others promoting vulgarity. He warned the Rajasthan Tourism Department that Mukhija would not be allowed into Mewar and that she would face physical confrontation if she attempted to land at Dabok Airport.

Legal Complaint Filed Against Apoorva in Kota

This controversy has extended beyond social media, with legal consequences also emerging. On February 13, 2025, a complaint was filed against Mukhija and others involved in the controversial episode of India’s Got Latent in Rajasthan’s Kota district. The complaint alleged the promotion of vulgarity through the show, further complicating Mukhija’s already challenging situation.

Apoorva’s story highlights the struggles of women in the public eye, often subjected to harsh criticism and online harassment. Despite the mounting challenges, Mukhija’s experience has sparked a broader conversation about the treatment of women in the digital space, online abuse, and the professional ramifications of such controversies. The situation has also raised questions about the role of influencers and their responsibility for the content they help create.
