In a move promoting gender equality and break stereotypes, Western Railway now boasts of an all-women maintenance team! In a first, the Mumbai Suburban Traction (TRD) department of Western Railway has formed an exclusive all-women maintenance team, a step emphasizing the increasing role of women in technical fields.
Throwing light about the role being played by the all-women maintenance team, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of Western Railway Vineet Abhishek stated, “Maintenance teams are the backbone of reliable train operations, ensuring seamless functioning of power supply installations in the AC Traction system. Over the past month, this women’s team has undergone rigorous training to manage and maintain 25kV and 110kV equipment at Mahalaxmi Traction Substation. The team has been officially deployed to work independently, adhering to stringent safety protocols.”
By forming an all-women team, Western Railway is keeping up to its commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion and challenging gender stereotypes especially in traditionally male-dominated fields. By empowering women to lead in technical and operational roles, Western Railway continues to inspire change and pave the way for a more inclusive future.
