CSR News: NCL Launches Community Health initiative ‘Charak’ in Singrauli, Madhya Pradesh

Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL), the Singrauli-based wholly owned subsidiary of Coal India Limited has launched a CSR initiative named ‘Charak’. The Community Health initiative is aimed to benefit residents of coal mine areas of NCL’s headquarter Singrauli, serving as a ray of hope for people suffering from life threatening ailments.
The health-centric scheme launched on Sunday will provide free treatment to underprivileged patients suffering from identified life-threatening diseases in Madhya Pradesh’s Singrauli region. Under the ‘Charak’ CSR initiative, free treatment will be provided by the Coal India (CIL) subsidiary at its dedicated hospital in Singrauli named Nehru Shatabdi Chikitsalaya (NSC Hospital) or at specialised empanelled hospitals across the country.
While launching the CSR initiative, B. Sairam, CMD of NCL spoke about the objectives of the programme and how it will facilitate healthcare for economically weaker sections of the community of the region. He also underscored the significance of ‘Charak’ in the peripheral areas of NCL having geographical challenges.

Eligibility and diseases to be treated

Residents of MP’s Singrauli and Uttar Pradesh’s Sonbhadra districts having annual family income below Rs. 8 Lakhs from all sources will be eligible for benefit under this scheme.

Cardiovascular diseases
Organ Transplant
Burns with contractures leading to permanent disability
Liver disorders
Sudden hearing loss
Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS)
Acute Surgical Emergencies
Neurological Disorders
Neurovascular disorders
Accidental trauma
Serious handicap
Multisystem disorders
Connective Tissue disorders
Sudden vision loss etc.

 

CSR of NCL

Through free specialised treatment, NCL strives to ensure access to quality healthcare while easing the financial and emotional burden on affected families. As a responsible Corporate, NCL is committed to improving the socio-economic profile of Singrauli region through its different CSR interventions. Notably, NCL touched the lives of around 10 Lakhs people and spent more than Rs 1,000 crore on various CSR initiatives in the last 10 years.

 

CSR support to Institute of Mining Technology

In February this year, Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Directorate of Technical Education, Government of Madhya Pradesh as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). The MoU was signed in Bhopal through which the Coal India Limited subsidiary will provide financial assistance of Rs. 76.56 Crore for construction of the Institute of Mining Technology in Singrauli, where the PSU is headquartered.
The institute will be a State Government Autonomous Institute offering mining engineering courses to the youth. The courses will be completed in a span of 3 years.
Road constructed under CSR of NCL

CSR of NCL for road construction and community development

A 2.2 Km, 4 Lane Road from Madhya Pradesh border Balia Nala to Khadia Area was unveiled in January this year, which has been constructed under CSR by Northern Coalfields Ltd. The road consists of two new bridges at Balia Nalla and Double Barrel Khadia along with 5 small culverts.
NCL has also signed a MoU earlier this year with the District Administration of Varanasi under CSR for providing financial assistance of Rs. 13 Crore for construction of 20 Community Halls in Uttar Pradesh’s Varanasi District.
