Karnataka, India: Vedanta Iron Ore Karnataka (IOK), a leading mining company committed to sustainable and responsible mining practices, launched the Swachhata Pakhwada 2023 scheduled between 16 – 30 Nov 2023, at its Karnataka facility in Chitradurga. The event aims to promote cleanliness, hygiene, and environmental awareness, aligning with the Company’s commitment to social responsibility, community welfare, and Nation building.
Swachhata Pakhwada, a government-led initiative under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, is a cleanliness drive aimed at fostering a culture of cleanliness and sanitation across various sectors of the society. The inauguration ceremony, held at the Vedanta Iron Ore Karnataka premises, was attended by Dr Suresh Prasad, Regional Controller of Mines, Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM), Bengaluru, Dr Sudhakara T. L., Senior Mining Geologist, IBM, Bengaluru, Shrishaila Gouda, CEO, Vedanta IOK, Mr. Umapathi T. R. Union Leader, other key executives, employees, Union members, and so on. The event commenced with a ceremonial lamp lighting, symbolizing the illumination of knowledge and awareness in the pursuit of cleanliness.
Speaking at the event, Shrishaila Gouda, CEO, Vedanta Iron Ore Karnataka, expressed the company’s commitment to environmental stewardship. “We, at Vedanta, strive towards maintaining a cleaner and greener environment, and the Swachhata Pakhwada reinforces our commitment towards maintaining cleanliness and hygiene in our surroundings. The Swachhata Pakhwada event is an excellent platform for us to engage our employees, local communities, and stakeholders in our shared responsibility towards maintaining a clean and sustainable environment,” said CEO Gouda, at the inaugural of the event.
As a part of the Swachhata Pakhwada event, sapling plantations, distribution of Swachhata Kit to the workmen, a skit and dance performance on Swachhata by the school children was conducted. Vedanta Iron Ore Karnataka has planned a series of activities, including cleanliness drives, installation of sanitary vending machines in schools, distribution of steel dustbins, awareness campaigns, sapling plantation programs, and educational workshops. These initiatives aim to involve employees and the local community actively, fostering a sense of responsibility towards maintaining a clean and green environment.
