Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu to Launch Quantum Testbeds on April 14

The CSR Journal Magazine

The upcoming inauguration by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on April 14 will mark a significant advancement in India’s technological landscape. The event coincides with World Quantum Day and represents a key milestone for the Amaravati Quantum Valley initiative. The launch aims to place Andhra Pradesh at the forefront of quantum technology development within the country.

Details of the Quantum Testbeds

During the inauguration, two distinct quantum computer testbeds, named 1S and 1Q, will be established at SRM University and Medha Towers, respectively. This development will make Andhra Pradesh the first state in India to host a dedicated Quantum Test Reference Facility. These facilities are designed to facilitate the testing and certification of quantum computer hardware, thereby enhancing the region’s status as a hub for quantum research and development.

The 1S superconducting quantum testbed will be located at SRM University, while the 1Q quantum computer testbed will be positioned at Medha Towers in Gannavaram. The testbeds are engineered to operate at extremely low temperatures, specifically around -273°C, allowing for precise evaluations of quantum devices. The implementation of these facilities utilises indigenous technology and equipment, showcasing local talent in the burgeoning field of quantum computing.

Qubitech is responsible for developing and establishing these quantum reference testbeds, which are expected to play a crucial role in advancing quantum hardware capabilities. Additionally, SRM University has set up an open-access reference facility for the benefit of researchers, students, and various stakeholders involved in quantum hardware development.

Collaborations and Support

The establishment of these facilities has received support from respected institutions such as the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, the Indian Institute of Science, and the Defence Research and Development Organisation. Their involvement underscores the collaborative spirit necessary for advancing quantum technology in India. The combined efforts of these institutions and the state government aim to fuel innovation in the rapidly evolving quantum computing sector.

The inauguration event is expected to attract a diverse group of participants, including members from the National Quantum Mission, professors from prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology, quantum scientists, as well as representatives from various startups and industry experts. This gathering is intended to foster dialogue and collaboration in the quantum domain.

Furthermore, measures are being implemented to enable virtual participation for over 1.5 lakh students from universities and colleges throughout Andhra Pradesh. This inclusion reflects a commitment to educational outreach and aims to inspire the next generation of researchers and practitioners in quantum technology.
