Babar Azam Sets New Record by Reaching 12,000 T20 Runs, Fastest in T20 History

The CSR Journal Magazine

Pakistan’s prominent cricketer Babar Azam made history on April 10 by becoming the fastest athlete to score 12,000 runs in T20 cricket. This significant achievement took place during a match held in Karachi, where he represented Peshawar Zalmi in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) against Karachi Kings. Babar accomplished this milestone in just 338 innings over the course of 351 matches, surpassing the previous record set by West Indies great Chris Gayle, who reached the mark in 343 innings.

Comparison with Other Top Players

Alongside Babar’s remarkable feat, India’s Virat Kohli ranks third on the list, having achieved the 12,000-run milestone in 360 innings. Babar needed to score merely 13 runs during the match against Karachi Kings to reach this notable milestone, which he accomplished in the fourth over of Zalmi’s innings. This achievement makes Babar only the second Pakistani player to cross 12,000 runs in T20 cricket, with veteran Shoaib Malik still holding the record for the most T20 runs by a Pakistani player.

Match Performance Details

Babar Azam played a pivotal role in the match as he opened the innings for Peshawar Zalmi and finished unbeaten with a score of 87 runs off 51 balls, which featured 10 fours and two sixes. His performance was instrumental in forming a substantial partnership of 191 runs for the second wicket with Kusal Mendis. This collaboration led Zalmi to post an impressive total of 246 runs for the loss of three wickets in their allotted 20 overs.

Karachi Kings’ Struggle

In pursuit of the hefty target of 247 runs, Karachi Kings encountered significant difficulties and were bowled out for a mere 87 runs. The bowling attack from Peshawar Zalmi was marked by outstanding performances from Iftikhar Ahmed, Shoriful Islam, and Sufiyan Muqeem, with each claiming three wickets. The comprehensive bowling display ensured that the Karachi Kings struggled throughout their innings, further highlighting the dominance of Peshawar Zalmi in this PSL match.
