Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s Blitz Powers Rajasthan Royals Past Mumbai Indians

The CSR Journal Magazine

Legendary Indian spinner Anil Kumble has expressed his admiration for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s striking performance during the Indian Premier League match between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Mumbai Indians (MI). Kumble applauded the young batsman for exhibiting remarkable skill while facing one of the world’s leading bowlers, Jasprit Bumrah. During the match held in Guwahati, Sooryavanshi demonstrated his understanding of Bumrah’s bowling style, managing to dictate the flow of play rather than vice versa. Kumble elaborated on how Sooryavanshi anticipated Bumrah’s slower deliveries and capitalized on them with effective strokeplay.

In a match reduced to 11 overs per side due to rain, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s contributions were pivotal. Kumble remarked that Sooryavanshi made facing Bumrah appear effortless, hitting the fast bowler for a six on the first ball he faced. Kumble noted, “He set the bowler up, not the other way around.” He praised Sooryavanshi for his ability to wait for Bumrah to deliver a slower ball on the third delivery, which the young batsman struck for another six. Kumble emphasized Sooryavanshi’s impressive strike rate, pointing out that he has consistently maintained a strike rate close to 300 while scoring over 30 runs in each game.

Sooryavanshi’s innings was electric, as he scored an impressive 39 runs off just 14 balls, marking his first encounter with Bumrah in competitive cricket. Along with Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sooryavanshi took charge of the MI bowling attack right from the outset. Jaiswal completed a remarkable inning of 77 not out from 32 balls, while Sooryavanshi’s aggressive start laid the foundation for their team’s success. Rajasthan Royals posted a total of 150 runs for the loss of three wickets.

While chasing a revised target, Mumbai Indians struggled to find their rhythm and lost wickets consistently. The RR bowlers proved effective, with Burger, Sandeep, and Bishnoi leading the attack, taking two wickets each. MI managed to score only 123 runs for nine wickets in their innings, falling short of the target set by RR. With this victory, Rajasthan Royals have secured their position at the top of the IPL points table, achieving three wins out of three matches under captain Riyan Parag. Conversely, MI, having begun their campaign with a victory over Kolkata Knight Riders, dropped to the seventh position after facing defeats against Delhi Capitals and now Rajasthan Royals.
