Aneet Padda to Play Dual Roles in Aditya Sarpotdar’s ‘Shakti Shalini’

The CSR Journal Magazine

Actor Aneet Padda is poised to portray dual characters in the forthcoming film Shakti Shalini, directed by Aditya Sarpotdar. This decision follows her recent performance in Saiyaara, wherein she depicted a relatable girl-next-door. The 23-year-old actress is expected to take on the roles of Shakti, the guardian, and Shalini, the malevolent entity.

The film reportedly draws inspiration from Bengali folklore and mythology, focusing on the age-old battle between good and evil. Through these characters, the narrative aims to encapsulate significant themes that resonate within the cultural backdrop of Bengal.

Aneet’s character, Shakti, allegedly embodies the goddess Kali, who is highly revered as the embodiment of power in Bengali culture. Conversely, Shalini represents the dark spirit seeking vengeance, thus adding layers of complexity to the storyline.

Plot Overview and Themes

According to information obtained from a Mid-Day report, the film’s narrative centres around a ghost who seeks retribution after being betrayed and brutally murdered. Shakti, as the protective force, is juxtaposed with Shalini, who embodies the dark side of revenge. This conflict is anticipated to be central to the plot, providing both action and emotional depth.

Shakti Shalini is set in a framework that blends mythological references with modern storytelling approaches. The film is positioned as a female-led action drama that aims to explore concepts of empowerment, resilience, and female agency through the protagonists’ journeys.

The movie is also expected to delineate the psychological and emotional battles faced by these characters, highlighting their strength in adversity. By merging stylised action sequences with a compelling narrative, Shakti Shalini aspires to address pertinent themes while keeping audiences engaged.

Release Date and Supporting Cast

Anticipated for release on December 24 this year, Shakti Shalini is part of the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe. Aneet was announced as the lead for this project last year, following her introduction in a post-credits scene of the film Thamma, which was released on October 21, 2025. In this scene, Aneet’s character was portrayed as “the creator, the destroyer, and the mother of all,” indicating her range in performing diverse roles.

Additionally, Vishal Jethwa has been reported to join the cast, playing the love interest alongside Aneet. His involvement is expected to enrich the film’s narrative by introducing depth that transcends a conventional romantic arc, diverging from typical portrayals in horror comedies.

Aneet Padda began to garner recognition through her role in Saiyaara, where she played Vaani, a passionate journalist who faces personal challenges, including a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease. Her previous credits include appearances in the films Salaam Venky and the series Big Girls Don’t Cry. With Shakti Shalini, Aneet aims to further solidify her standing within the film industry.
