Children working in India

Children are the future of our nation. They are the ones who would execute and fulfill the dream we see for our country. However, the dreams would remain just that if we do not protect and nurture the children and make our base stronger.

According to the statistics by Action Aid India, one in every eleven children in India work for a living. There are 33 million child labourers between the ages of 5-18 years in India as per census 2011 data, and 10.13 million between the ages of 5-14 years.

As per government data, almost 20,000 women and children were victims of human trafficking in India in 2016. India as a nation is used by the traffickers as receiving, sending and transit country. There are approximately 10 million sex workers in India out of which 100,000 belong to Mumbai alone which is Asia’s largest sex industry center. 300,000 to 50,000 under 18 years of age children are involved in the sex trade.

Aiming to work towards the cause of protecting children against child labour, forced prostitution, trafficking, and sexual abuse, Superhits 93.5 RED FM has associated with Nobel Laureate Kailash Satyarthi Children’s Foundation for their initiative – Bajao For A Cause.

Collaborating with Mr. Satyarthi, the radio station will urge listeners to actively extend their support to the cause and donate for the underprivileged children all over India. Through this initiative the radio station will share real-life stories of brave survivors and plight of many other children who are still waiting to be rescued. Creating right noises for the cause, RED FM along with Mr. Satyarthi hope to eradicate child labour and child exploitation by educating and mobilizing the masses. Committed towards building support and expanding scope for child protection, this initiative will focus on providing large scale support for the rescued and rehabilitated children of India.

“In turbulent times likes ours, it is very important to secure our children’s future at nascent stage. Such holistic physical and mental security will protect them from all kinds of untoward incidents. This initiative will help us to push the message of child protection to the masses. We hope to change the mindset of the people where our focus is to build a healthy relationship with every child through love, respect, and friendship. Through Bajao For A Cause we will bring about that change in addressing children’s issue via various activities and programs undertaken by both the organizations,” said Mr. Satyarthi. “We are delighted to be part of Bajao For A Cause this year. With RED FM’s support, we plan to reach out to more people and gather momentum for our cause,” he added.

This joint effort from Red FM and Kailash Satyarthi Children’s Foundation plan to spread message of child protection far and wide, establishing a greater impact via on-air programs across all major cities – Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Bangalore. Starting from June, listeners can make donation of amount INR 1,000/- towards the cause which will be exempted from income tax under section 80G.
