In the last 24 hours at least 60 Palestinians who are starving due to acute food shortage were killed by Israel, while they were eagerly waiting for humanitarian aid distribution at US-backed and Israeli military-established Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), reported Al Jazeera.
Such an attack has happened earlier as well by Israel and was condemned by the United Nations, and the aid distribution system was partially removed for three months, however this latest attack raises concern. Calling the aid distribution arrangement as a ‘death trap’, UN and rights groups had earlier refused to work with GHF.
Spokesman for the UN human rights office, Thameen Al-Kheetan, in a statement had called GHF as an abomination that has risked lives of Palestinians. As per Gaza’s health ministry, more than 500 Palestinians have been killed at the GHF aid distribution centre.
The GHF has been operational since May 26, and uses US private security contractors, as per GHF till date more than 44 million meals have been distributed, with over 2.4 million given out at three sites.
But mass killing has been a matter of concern, one of the horror killings was, when a 13-year-old Palestinian boy Rayan Tamer Housheh was mercilessly shot in the neck by Israeli forces.
The Gaza Israel war that began on October 7, 2023, has till date taken the lives of more than 56,077 Palestinians, this includes mostly women and children. Hundreds of journalists and caregivers have been killed during the war.
Meanwhile, ahead of NATO summit, US President Donald Trump spoke on the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza, calling the ceasefire push a great progress, “I think great progress is being made on Gaza as per US special envoy Steve Witkoff. He even added, “Gaza is very close”.
