Uttarakhand to host AI Impact Summit to Drive Responsible Tech Growth

The CSR Journal Magazine

Uttarakhand is hosting the AI Impact Summit 2025 today, October 17, 2025, at Hotel Ramada in Dehradun. This event is a crucial prelude to the India-AI Impact Summit 2026 scheduled for February 19-20, 2026, at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. Organised jointly by the Government of Uttarakhand, the India AI Mission, and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), the summit aims to position Uttarakhand as a key player in AI-driven digital transformation. The event gathers policymakers, industry leaders, startups, and academics to discuss responsible, inclusive, and sustainable AI adoption aligned with Uttarakhand’s Digital Uttarakhand vision and India’s wider digital agenda.

Uttarakhand’s New Role in AI Innovation

The summit signals Uttarakhand’s emergence as a frontrunner in deploying AI technologies for governance and socio-economic development. Union Minister of State for Electronics and IT, Jitin Prasada, inaugurated the event, emphasising the balance between innovation and ethical responsibility in AI adoption. At the summit, several AI-driven startups supported by IIM Kashipur and STPI Dehradun are showcasing solutions designed for local challenges across sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, environmental monitoring, and education. The presentations highlight practical AI applications developed to fit the state’s unique geographic and socio-economic needs, illustrating how technology can enhance public service delivery, improve access, and drive entrepreneurship in the hill state.

In addition, the summit features sessions on Uttarakhand’s IT roadmap and AI governance strategy, underscoring the integration of AI within the state’s broader digital infrastructure and policy framework. The state government is actively working towards building a dedicated AI mission and centres of excellence, supporting innovation hubs and facilitating AI capacity building among public officials and entrepreneurs. This aligns with the CM’s vision to transition Uttarakhand from “Hill to Hi-Tech,” leveraging AI to improve governance transparency, efficiency, and citizen engagement.

Driving Inclusive and Sustainable Digital Growth

A core theme of the summit is the promotion of inclusive and responsible AI usage that benefits all sections of society. The discussions focus on ensuring equitable access to AI technologies, digital literacy enhancement, and unbiased, trustworthy AI systems. The event also highlights AI’s role in fostering sustainable development and climate resilience – a critical agenda for the ecologically sensitive Himalayan region. The summit explores how AI can be a catalyst for social empowerment, especially in rural and remote communities, bridging divides in access to healthcare, education, and government services.

This approach reflects the principles outlined in India’s Digital Transformation agenda and India AI Mission, which call for AI solutions that are safe, ethical, and aligned with human values. Officials stressed the importance of governance frameworks that embed transparency, data protection, and accountability to build public trust. The summit’s conversations coalesce around the goal of fostering a climate of innovation that drives economic opportunity while respecting environmental sustainability, contributing to Uttarakhand’s goal of climate-resilient growth through digital means.

Paving the Way for India’s Global AI Leadership

The AI Impact Summit 2025 in Uttarakhand serves as the gateway to the larger India-AI Impact Summit 2026, which will be the first global AI conference held in the Global South. The forthcoming event is framed around three guiding principles, known as the Sutras: People, Planet, and Progress. These principles underscore the vision that AI should serve humanity inclusively, promote environmental stewardship, and drive equitable socio-economic development.

To operationalise these broad ideals, the India-AI Impact Summit 2026 is organised around seven thematic “Chakras,” representing areas of focused international collaboration. These include Human Capital development, Social Inclusion, Safe and Trusted AI, Resilience and Innovation, Science and Research, Democratizing AI Resources, and AI for Economic Growth and Social Good. Each Chakra represents a strategic domain aimed at fostering cooperation, governance standards, innovation, and equitable access to AI’s benefits across countries and sectors.

Uttarakhand’s pre-summit demonstrates the state’s contribution to this expansive global AI agenda by localising responsible AI principles within its development framework. By championing AI innovation rooted in inclusivity and ethics, Uttarakhand exemplifies how regional and national ambitions can intersect to establish India as a leader in the ethical global deployment of AI technology. The summit is both a celebration of AI’s transformative potential and a call to action for stakeholders to build a future of trustworthy, impactful, and sustainable AI for society.
