The CSR Journal Magazine

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami recently addressed police constables currently undergoing training at the Police Lines in Dehradun. In his speech, he highlighted the importance of strengthening law and order in the state. Dhami encouraged the constables to play a proactive role in disaster management, particularly given the region’s vulnerability to natural calamities.

He underscored the necessity of ensuring smooth traffic management within urban areas, a vital concern as the state’s population continues to grow. The Chief Minister’s focus on these issues aims to better equip the police force to handle the dynamic challenges of modern policing effectively.

Initiatives for Urban Development and Cultural Preservation

Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister inaugurated the renovation and restoration of Jugmandar Hall at the Dehradun Municipal Corporation. This project, executed at a cost of Rs 2.32 crore, represents part of the broader efforts to preserve the cultural heritage of the city. Dhami mentioned that preserving traditions while fostering growth is crucial for Dehradun’s identity.

On the same occasion, the Chief Minister laid the foundation stone for a new canal at the ABC Centre in Kedarpuram. He also announced plans to develop and beautify parks across six locations in the municipal area, further enhancing community spaces for residents. These initiatives are aligned with the government’s vision of development that respects and maintains local heritage.

Dhami reiterated that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, various urban development missions are being implemented. These include Swachh Bharat, AMRUT, Smart City, and Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, all aimed at modernising urban centres. The projects are designed to improve aspects such as cleanliness, water supply, sewerage management, green spaces, and affordable housing for economically weaker sections of society.

Major Development Projects Underway in Dehradun

The Chief Minister announced an ongoing investment of over Rs 1,400 crore in development projects intended to transform Dehradun into a modern metropolis. Notable initiatives include the establishment of a mechanised waste transfer station and an Integrated Command and Control Centre. This centre is set to facilitate real-time monitoring of waste management operations, thereby enhancing overall efficiency.

Furthermore, Dhami reported on the successful development of 35 parks within the city, including a yoga-themed park in Kedarpuram and special memorial parks dedicated to martyrs. These initiatives have added more than 50,000 square metres of green space, promoting environmental sustainability within urban development efforts.

To address water conservation, recharge pits are being constructed throughout the city. Additionally, Dehradun has introduced 30 electric buses, supported by 11 EV charging stations, which contribute to a cleaner urban transport system. The city achieved significant recognition by ranking 19th nationally under the National Clean Air Programme.

Finally, the Chief Minister announced that connectivity between Delhi and Dehradun will receive a substantial boost with the upcoming inauguration of the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway by Prime Minister Modi. This project, along with plans for elevated roads over the Rispana and Bindal rivers, aims to alleviate traffic congestion and facilitate smoother transportation for residents.
