UP Govt Strengthens Welfare Delivery with Family ID, Reaches 15 Crore Beneficiaries

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Uttar Pradesh government is pushing forward an ambitious plan to ensure that welfare benefits reach every eligible household through the Family ID system, making the delivery of government schemes faster and more transparent. The initiative aims to simplify access, especially for marginalised citizens who previously faced multiple hurdles in availing services.

Under this program, 98 central and state welfare schemes have now been linked with the Family ID platform, benefiting more than 15.07 crore people across the state. “A total of 98 welfare schemes of the central and state governments have now been linked with the Family ID system. This integration is directly benefiting more than 15.07 crore beneficiaries across Uttar Pradesh by ensuring timely and accurate delivery of essential services and financial assistance. So far, over 44 lakh citizens have applied through the Family ID portal,” said Principal Secretary (Planning) Alok Kumar.

The Family ID assigns a 12-digit unique number to each household, consolidating the details of all family members under one identification. This “One Family, One Identity” approach, envisioned by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, helps prevent duplication, automatically determines scheme eligibility, and ensures that benefits reach the rightful recipients.

No Ration Card? Family ID Has You Covered

Families without ration cards or those lacking certain certificates are also being included through special registration processes. Citizens must have Aadhaar numbers linked to a valid mobile phone to register, enabling OTP verification. If a mobile number changes, it must be updated to avoid any interruption in benefits.

With Family ID, citizens no longer need to visit multiple offices for certificates related to income, caste, or residence. Once a household is registered, all information is available in a centralised database, saving time and money while improving administrative transparency.

The registration process allows self-registration through Aadhaar-based login and e-KYC, automatically fetching family details from the UIDAI database. Families can add members as needed, followed by verification from lekhpals in urban areas and Gram Panchayat officers in villages. The ID is also accessible through DigiLocker, and more than 19 lakh physical Family ID cards have been issued across the state at no cost to citizens.

Family ID Database Now Covers 15.7 Crore People

Currently, the database includes over 15.7 crore people, with 14.7 crore linked through ration cards and more than 1 crore through self-registration. Field coverage is nearly 70%, with addresses recorded for all, mobile numbers for 85%, and marital status for 54%.

A five-step technical framework ensures smooth integration of welfare schemes. It includes Aadhaar notification, digitisation of the database, Aadhaar authentication, creation of a Family ID field on scheme portals, and connection with departmental databases. This system strengthens welfare delivery, prevents irregularities, and helps the government maintain accurate records of beneficiaries.

Through the Family ID, the Yogi government aims to guarantee timely benefits to farmers, labourers, women, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities, reinforcing social security and trust in governance.
