Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath extended his gratitude to Prayagraj Maha Kumbh Mela sanitation workers by authorizing a Rs 10,000 special bonus payment. The large number of 66 crore pilgrims reached the Maha Kumbh Mela conclusion in February 2025.

Yogi Adityanath’s decision represents a major portion of his statewide strategy to create better conditions for sanitation workers. Sanitation workers throughout Uttar Pradesh will achieve a monthly minimum wage of Rs 16,000 starting from April after the state’s government increased their pay from the previous range of Rs 9,000 to Rs 11,000. All workers will receive their bonus payment directly into their bank accounts during the next month.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath joined with workers and ministers for Shramdaan (manual labor) at Prayagraj’s Arail Ghat clean-up operations before conducting a financial reward ceremony. His active participation served to demonstrate the government’s devotion to delivering a successful event. The Maha Kumbh witnessed the Uttar Pradesh government succeed in setting a new record for the largest coordinated cleanliness campaign under Guinness World Records validation.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also praised the state government for its seamless management of the event, highlighting the collective effort that ensured the success of the Maha Kumbh. This recognition of sanitation workers highlights their integral role in making the religious gathering a smooth and memorable experience for millions.
The Maha Kumbh Mela has seen six special bathing dates, Paush Purnima on January 13, Makar Sankranti on January 14, Mauni Amavasya on January 29, Basant Panchami on February 3, Maghi Purnima on February 12, and Mahashivratri on February 26 which included three ‘Amrit Snan’.
