Two Pakistani Nationals Arrested After Escaping from Jammu Juvenile Facility

The CSR Journal Magazine

Two Pakistani nationals, aged 20 and 23, were arrested by the Haryana Special Task Force (STF) at Ambala Cantonment railway station following their escape from a juvenile observation home located in RS Pura, Jammu. The escape occurred on Monday, and the apprehension took place less than 24 hours later, approximately 400 kilometers away.

The individuals taken into custody are identified as Mohammad Sana-Ullah from Muzaffargarh district and Ahsan Anwar from Nankana Sahib district, both in Punjab, Pakistan. After the escape, they were handed over to the Jammu & Kashmir Police on Tuesday evening. They had fled alongside a local gangster, Karanjit Singh, also known as Gugga, who allegedly injured two police officers during the escape with an illegal firearm.

Police Response and Investigations

In the aftermath of the breakout, authorities initiated a search operation across the Jammu region and neighboring states. Six police personnel assigned to the juvenile observation home, including an Assistant Sub-Inspector, have been suspended due to suspected negligence in their duties. The Jammu police are conducting a departmental inquiry into these lapses, while a search for the fugitive gangster, Karanjit Singh, is ongoing.

Escape Details

According to police officials, soon after escaping, the three fugitives sought shelter with an acquaintance, Thakur. They then traveled by bus to Ambala, where they reportedly commandeered a motorcycle along the way. Upon arrival, the group separated; while Karanjit and Thakur dispersed, Sana-Ullah and Anwar were ultimately apprehended by authorities.

Planned Route and Legal Actions

It has been revealed that the two Pakistani nationals intended to cross into Nepal via Uttar Pradesh as part of their escape plan. The two police officers who were injured during the incident are currently receiving medical attention. Officials have announced that a new First Information Report (FIR) has been filed against the trio under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including attempted murder and assault on public servants.

Background of the Arrested Individuals

Ahsan Anwar had previously crossed into India in October 2019 at the age of 16 while playing a game and had been in custody since then, despite an order for release issued on June 30, 2021. Mohammad Sana-Ullah, on the other hand, was apprehended in 2021 for illegal entry into India. Their cases have raised concerns regarding the handling of juvenile immigrants and the protocols in place within juvenile facilities.
