Trinamool Congress State General Secretary Kunal Ghosh has filed a defamation case against the father of RG Kar rape-murder victim “Abhaya”. Abhaya’s father will have to appear in court on September 11.

Taking to social media platform X, Kunal Ghosh wrote, “I have now filed a case after my lawyer Ayan Chakraborty’s letter protesting the false, defamatory statement of Abhaya’s father. Notice has been issued by the Honourable 15th Judicial Magistrate’s bench in Bankshall Court. As per the current rules, he or his lawyer has been asked to be present on 11 September 2025, at 10:30 am.”

After the Nabanna campaign August 9, Abhaya’s father had told the media, “The CBI has ruined the investigation by taking money. The state government gave money. Kunal Ghosh has settled matters with the CGO.”

Protesting his comments, Kunal Ghosh’s lawyer Ayan Chakraborty sent a legal notice to Abhaya’s father a few days ago. The lawyer had told the media, “If he does not hold a press conference and apologise within four days of receiving the letter, further legal action will be taken.”

Now Kunal Ghosh has walked the path of a lawsuit. On Friday morning, Ghosh wrote on his X handle, “Since he has given the statement, since he has been going everywhere from the court to the BJP’s Nabanna campaign, I hope that he will come himself instead of avoiding the court. Whatever he has to say about the investigation into his daughter’s murder, whatever evidence he has against me, he should give to the court. He should do this in the interest of the investigation. If he does not come himself, then I will understand that he is deliberately lying. He has just wasted the sympathy and respect for him by doing politics. When he is talking about justice in the case of his daughter, why doesn’t he come to the court himself and say it?

Kunal Ghosh to file second case against Abhaya’s father

The Trinamool spokesperson in his X post further wrote, “It is worth mentioning that he said, ‘The CBI is spoiling the investigation by taking bribes. The state government gave the money. Kunal Ghosh went to the CGO and settled.’ I have filed a case saying that I will not tolerate such blatant lies in this sensitive matter. Come to the court that day and give the evidence against me to the Honourable Judge.”

Kunal Ghosh will file another case against Abhaya’s father. Talking about the same, he wrote, “I will file another case in this regard. Lawyer Ayan is unwell, has a fever. Otherwise, a second case would have been filed today itself.”
