Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has been a crucial aspect of the development of Ranchi, the capital city of Jharkhand. In recent years, the region has witnessed a significant influx of industries, which have brought with them a responsibility to ensure the well-being and progress of the local community. With a population of over 1.4 million, Ranchi is home to many economically backward sections and tribal communities that need support to improve their living conditions. Hence, companies operating in Ranchi must prioritise CSR initiatives that contribute to the development and upliftment of the local community.
Ranchi was the largest recipient of CSR funds in FY2021-22. The district received a total of Rs. 51.49 Cr. from 81 companies. The top three contributing companies were HDFC Bank Limited, Central Coalfields Limited, and Powergrid Corporation of India Limited, which spent Rs. 19.49 Cr., Rs. 7.58 Cr., and Rs. 6.18 Cr., respectively. The top three areas of focus for the CSR initiatives in the region were Education, Health and Rural Development.
