Stone-Pelting on Vande Bharat Express in Gujarat, Three Arrested

The CSR Journal Magazine

Three individuals have been apprehended for allegedly throwing stones at the Vande Bharat Express, resulting in damage to the train’s windows. The incident occurred on October 23, 2026, while the train was travelling between Utran and Surat in Gujarat. The Railway Protection Force (RPF) reported that the stone-pelting damaged two window panes in a passenger coach as well as a glass panel in the pantry area. Fortunately, no passengers or railway employees sustained injuries during the event.

The train involved was number 26904, which connects Utran and Surat railway stations. Following the incident, railway security personnel initiated a search for the individuals responsible for the damage. CCTV footage later played a crucial role in identifying the suspects, who reportedly claimed they acted out of a sense of amusement.

The RPF was alerted to the incident soon after it occurred, prompting immediate action to locate the perpetrators. Surveillance footage from the area was reviewed to gather evidence and establish a timeline of events leading up to the stone-pelting.

Investigation and Identification of Suspects

Upon receiving reports of the damage, personnel from the RPF’s Surat railway post began a thorough search of the vicinity between Utran and Surat, focusing on areas near the Tapi river and the Surat yard. Inspector Dinesh Kumar Yadav, along with Sub-Inspector Amit Kumar and Assistant Sub-Inspector Prem Singh Hada, coordinated with Head Constable Shiv Narayan Singh, who was overseeing the train escort team, to gather more information about the incident.

The escort team confirmed that there were no injuries resulting from the stone-pelting, which allowed the investigation to concentrate solely on identifying the culprits. RPF officers conducted searches of nearby bushes and questioned local residents, but initial efforts did not yield any leads regarding the suspects.

In response to the lack of information, the RPF established a special team dedicated to identifying and apprehending the individuals responsible. This team included Assistant Sub-Inspector Sunil Patil, Head Constables Manoj Kumar and Jignesh Kumar, and Constable Rakesh Yadav. They meticulously analysed CCTV footage from various cameras situated near the incident site and the train itself.

Confession and Ongoing Investigation

The investigation led to the identification of three suspects, who were subsequently detained and taken to the RPF post for further questioning. During the interrogation, the accused reportedly confessed to throwing stones at the moving train purely for entertainment purposes. The RPF noted that the damage occurred near seats 40, 41, 42, 60, 61, and 62 in coach C-6 of the Vande Bharat Express, in addition to the pantry area.

As the investigation continues, Sub-Inspector Amit Kumar is overseeing the process to ensure that all aspects of the case are thoroughly examined. The RPF is committed to addressing such incidents to maintain the safety and security of passengers and railway operations. Authorities have reiterated the importance of responsible behaviour around railway tracks to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

The swift action taken by the RPF highlights the effectiveness of surveillance technology in enhancing railway safety and security. The incident serves as a reminder of the potential consequences of reckless behaviour and the commitment of railway authorities to uphold public safety.
