The CSR Journal Magazine

In a significant move to enhance the educational landscape of the state, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has declared the establishment of 100 new public schools across various constituencies in Telangana, excluding Hyderabad. This initiative will commence in the current academic year and aims to replicate the successful model of the Telangana Public School located in Arutla, Manchala mandal of Rangareddy district. The proposed public schools will feature modern classrooms, athletic facilities, qualified teaching staff, and transportation services for students.

During a review meeting of the Education department held at the Command Control Centre, CM Reddy emphasized the government’s commitment to transforming all government schools in Telangana into exemplary institutions that provide quality education. He assured that the necessary funding will be allocated to enhance the educational sector. Engineers have been directed to construct new government schools in the Core Urban Region Economy (CURE) area, mirroring the design and standards of corporate institutions. The Chief Minister highlighted the imperative use of modern technology in construction, aiming for the completion of 12 integrated new schools within a year.

Upgradation of Existing Schools

Officials have been tasked with ensuring that the facilities available in prestigious institutions such as Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan and Jubilee Hills Public Schools are replicated in the new integrated schools. The state government plans to upgrade 164 existing schools, adding additional classrooms and facilities in 17 identified schools within the CURE area. Additionally, CM Reddy proposed a week-long programme addressing education-related issues as part of an upcoming 99-day initiative, emphasizing the need for public representatives and officials to assess the availability of necessary facilities in schools and colleges.

In light of the growing significance of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in contemporary education, CM Reddy instructed officials to initiate programs focusing on AI education from the primary school level. The introduction of short-term training sessions for teachers and lecturers on AI technology was discussed, aiming to enhance the skills of students and equip them for future opportunities. The Chief Minister asserted that reforms are also required in the technical education system to keep pace with technological advancements.

Moreover, CM Reddy has mandated the immediate launch of AI-based courses in polytechnic colleges and Advanced Training Centres (ATCs), discontinuing outdated curricula. He noted that graduates from these institutions should have prompt access to job opportunities in various industries. The Chief Minister reaffirmed the allocation of funds to all state universities, recalling that Rs. 1000 crore had already been designated for Osmania University. He requested a detailed report on funding needs from the Chairman of the Higher Education Board, Balkishta Reddy.

In reviewing plans to introduce a breakfast program for students in government schools starting in the 2026-2027 academic year, the Chief Minister provided several recommendations. Accompanying breakfast, milk will be served to each student, with instructions to procure it from the government-run Vijaya Dairy. Officials are also expected to leverage technology to regularly assess caloric needs for students, alongside providing a comprehensive kit of school supplies such as books, uniforms, and stationery.

During the meeting, the Telangana Private Schools Fee Regulatory Monitoring Commission presented its findings regarding private school fee regulation. The Commission informed the Chief Minister about the policies implemented in various states for fee regulation. CM Reddy instructed District Collectors and District Education Officers to conduct assessments at the district level and submit reports on fee structures. A state-level committee, potentially comprising a retired judge or chief secretary, will make final decisions concerning school fees, while a public draft will be made available for feedback from parents, educators, and community members.

Lastly, the Telangana Education Commission, led by Chairman Akunuri Murali, submitted a report on the state’s education policy to CM Revanth Reddy. The Commission had conducted studies in countries like the United States, Vietnam, and Malaysia, and compiled best practices for education. The Chairman detailed key points of the report, to which the Chief Minister added suggestions and tasked Government Advisor Kesava Rao with creating actionable steps for implementation and necessary legislative actions.
