Tamil Nadu Worker Dies in Kuwait Following Missile Debris Incident

The CSR Journal Magazine

An Indian national working in Kuwait has died after being struck by debris from an Iranian missile, which fell on March 30. The deceased, identified as Santhana Selvam, was originally from Tamil Nadu and had been employed as an electrician in Kuwait for over a decade at an engineering and contracting firm.

Family Seeks Government Assistance

Following the tragic incident, Selvam’s family met with local authorities, specifically the District Collector, to file a formal petition for assistance. They urgently requested the government’s help in recovering the body of their loved one from Kuwait, emphasizing the need for its repatriation to conduct final rites.

Second Indian Casualty in Recent Attacks

This incident marks Selvam as the second Indian national to die due to an Iranian missile attack in Kuwait within a short period. The day prior, another Indian worker, who was employed at a power and water desalination plant, lost his life when a missile struck the facility. These incidents have raised concerns about the safety of expatriates in the region.

Damages at Power and Water Facility

In response to the missile attack, Kuwait’s Ministry of Electricity and Water confirmed damage to a service building at the desalination plant. The Ministry condemned the strike, referring to it as “sinful Iranian aggression” against Kuwait. Additionally, it announced that technical and emergency response teams had been mobilized immediately to manage the damage and ensure that operations continued at the site.

Impact of Regional Conflict on Indian Nationals

With Selvam’s death, the total number of Indian nationals who have lost their lives in the ongoing Middle East conflict now stands at nine. This increasing toll underlines the ongoing risk faced by expatriates in the region amidst heightened tensions and military actions. The families of those affected continue to call for more substantial government intervention to safeguard their loved ones working abroad.
