Father of Flight Lieutenant Purvesh Duragkar, who lost his life in the Su-30MKI crash in Karbi Anglong, Assam, spoke to the media about his son’s dedication and commitment to service. Ravindra Duragkar recounted the moment he learned of his son’s passing from a high-ranking official in the unit.

He noted that due to ongoing runway work in Tezpur, his son had been posted to Jorhat, where he frequently discussed his duties and experiences. “He always tried not to make mistakes,” the grieving father remarked. The official communication regarding his son’s death came from his Group Captain.

The crash also resulted in the death of Squadron Leader Anuj, who was serving alongside Flight Lieutenant Duragkar. The Indian Air Force (IAF) publicly acknowledged the tragic loss of both pilots through a statement expressing condolences and support for the bereaved families. Their message conveyed, “IAF acknowledges the loss of Sqn Ldr Anuj and Flt Lt Purvesh Duragkar, who sustained fatal injuries in the Su-30 crash. All personnel of the IAF express sincere condolences and stand firmly with the bereaved family in this time of grief.”

The IAF later detailed that the SU-30MKI was conducting a training sortie when it crashed in the Karbi Anglong region, approximately 60 kilometers from Jorhat. Radar contact with the aircraft was lost shortly after takeoff at around 7:42 PM. This incident has raised significant concerns regarding safety protocols and operational procedures.

Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also extended his condolences to the families of the deceased pilots. Via a public message, he expressed his sadness over the loss of both officers in the IAF Su-30MKI crash. “Deeply saddened by the loss of Sqn Ldr Anuj and Flt Lt Purvesh Duragkar in the tragic Su-30 crash. Their courage and service to the nation will always be remembered with pride and gratitude. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. The nation stands firmly with them in this hour of grief,” he stated.
