Russian military operations overnight have led to four fatalities in Ukraine, according to local officials. These strikes occurred as both Moscow and Kyiv prepared for the arrival of US envoys, who are attempting to advance negotiations to conclude the ongoing conflict that has persisted for over four years. The visiting delegates are Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of former US President Donald Trump, who aim to reignite peace discussions amid escalating aerial offensives from both sides.

Details of the Strikes

In the Dnipropetrovsk region, Russian forces conducted attacks that reportedly resulted in four deaths and left five individuals injured at an industrial site, as stated by Oleksandr Hanzha, head of the local military administration. A subsequent attack in the Nikopol district led to injuries of a 62-year-old man, in addition to damage to residential structures, including private homes and an apartment building.

The Russian Defence Ministry announced that its recent strikes targeted metallurgical plants in Dnipropetrovsk, which it described as significant suppliers of materials for Ukraine’s military efforts. Meanwhile, in the Kyiv region, two more individuals sustained injuries from a separate air attack, as reported by regional military administration head Tymur Tkachenko. The assault resulted in a fire that partially destroyed a nine-storey residential building in the Boryspil district.

Further attacks took place in the southern Mykolaiv region, where Russian forces targeted a shopping centre, leading to damage to retail spaces and subsequent fires. Emergency services faced challenges due to ongoing risks from additional strikes, necessitating temporary withdrawals before returning to the scene when conditions permitted. Affected individuals included a 72-year-old man and a 17-year-old girl.

Military Developments on Both Sides

Ukraine’s Air Force disclosed that Russian forces launched ballistic missiles from locations within the Rostov and Voronezh regions, in addition to deploying 167 attack drones overnight. Among these drones were various types, including Shahed models, with approximately half being jet-powered. Ukrainian air defence efforts managed to intercept or neutralise 128 of these aerial threats.

Reports indicate that hostilities have intensified, with Ukrainian forces conducting strikes that resulted in injuries to three individuals, including a 14-year-old girl, in the Belgorod region of Russia. The Russian Defence Ministry also confirmed that its forces successfully shot down 53 Ukrainian drones during the same period.

As both sides continue their military operations, the forthcoming visit by US representatives is being closely monitored to assess its potential to recommence peace negotiations. Historically, prior diplomatic missions by American officials have prompted temporary cessations of hostilities, leading to hopes for renewed dialogue amid the ongoing conflict.
