Tensions inside the family of Rashtriya Janata Dal patriarch Lalu Prasad Yadav escalated sharply after his daughter Rohini Acharya issued a series of accusations against her brother Tejashwi Yadav and two of his close associates. Her statements came in the aftermath of the RJD’s dramatic collapse in the recently concluded Bihar assembly elections, where the party’s tally dropped from 75 seats to just 24.

The 46-year-old, who donated a kidney to her father in 2022, said she left her parents’ home under distressing circumstances. In a post shared on X, she wrote, “Yesterday, a daughter, a sister, a married woman, a mother was humiliated, filthy abuses were hurled at her, a slipper was raised to hit her. I did not compromise on my self-respect, I did not surrender the truth, and solely because of this, I had to endure this insult.”

Rohini added that she was separated from her loved ones against her will:
“Yesterday, a daughter, out of compulsion, left behind her crying parents and sisters and came away; they tore me away from my maternal home… They left me orphaned.”
She urged that no one should experience what she went through.

Rohini: “They Asked Me to Disown My Family”

Her outburst followed the declaration she made a day earlier, announcing her departure from politics and breaking ties with her family. She said she acted under pressure from those within Tejashwi Yadav’s team, “I’m quitting politics and I’m disowning my family … This is what Sanjay Yadav and Rameez had asked me to do …nd I’m taking all the blame’s.”

When speaking to reporters at Patna airport, Rohini claimed that the internal environment of the Yadav household had become intolerable for anyone who questioned the party’s defeat. She said, “I don’t have a family. You should go and ask Tejashwi Yadav, Sanjay Yadav, and Rameez. They are the ones who threw me out of the family. They do not want to take any responsibility… The whole nation is asking why the party failed like this. When you take the names of Sanjay Yadav and Rameez, you are thrown out of the house, disgraced, and abused.”

The dispute comes amid speculation that she had long been unhappy with decisions taken in the RJD, including the removal of Tej Pratap Yadav earlier this year. Despite that, she had publicly supported Tejashwi during the campaign.

BJP Slams Lalu

Political reactions began immediately. The BJP criticised Lalu Yadav, claiming his daughter’s ordeal exposed a wider pattern of discrimination. BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya responded sharply, saying, “Rohini Acharya donated her kidney to her father Lalu Prasad without caring for her own life… Today, Rohini Acharya is publicly saying that she was even beaten with slippers in the family. This is the real face of the patriarchal, anti-woman, and male-dominated mentality of the Lalu family.”

However, LJP (Ram Vilas) chief Chirag Paswan said he would not comment on the family quarrel, calling all of Lalu’s children his “siblings” and hoping they resolve the dispute quickly.

Neither Tejashwi Yadav nor his aides Sanjay Yadav or Rameez have issued any statement in response to Rohini’s allegations.
