A very shocking incident has come to light from Pune, Maharashtra. A 55-year-old peon, Ramesh Dagdu Sathe, has been apprehended. The peon was arrested in connection with the alleged rape of two 11-year-old students.
How did the incident come to light?
The incident reportedly occurred at a children’s shelter home in Wade-Bolhai, Wagholi, Pune. According to reports, the horrific incident reportedly took place on June 7. However, it came to light only after the young victims bravely confided in the shelter’s management about the abuse.
According to the Lonikand police, Sathe is accused of tying the hands of the two minors. He is also accused of stuffing cloth in their mouths, and then sexually assaulting them. Sathe further disturbingly, he threatened to kill the children if they disclosed the incident to anyone. A similar tactic often used to silence victims by the accused.
Police case registered
Following the incident, a case was initially filed at the Ghodegaon police station. However, the case was soon transferred to the Lonikand police station. The Lonikand police registered a formal complaint under the stringent section of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
According to reports, the alarming behavior of the children, including their disturbed demeanor and loss of appetite, was first noticed by the manager. The manager of the Sahyadri Adivasi Gramin Vikas Pratishthan, the organization responsible for running the shelter home.
The manager of the shelter home patiently and gently questioned both the victims. Both gradually revealed the horrific abuse they had endured. Upon learning about the assault, the manager promptly informed the authorities, leading to Sathe’s arrest.
Children now receiving counseling
Following this, both the children are now receiving crucial counseling. The counseling is said to help them cope with the profound trauma they have experienced. According to reports both the kids were placed in the shelter home on the orders of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC).
Deputy Commissioner of Police Himmat Jadhav confirmed Sathe’s arrest. He further stated that the investigation is actively ongoing. The officer also ensured that justice will be served in this deeply disturbing case.
