Pakistan Launches Airstrikes on Kabul and Afghan Border Areas; 4 Killed, 15 Injured

The CSR Journal Magazine

At least four people were killed and 15 others injured after a Pakistani airstrike struck parts of Kabul early Friday, according to officials from the Afghan capital’s police department. Authorities said the strike damaged residential buildings and caused panic among residents.

Kabul police spokesperson Khalid Zadran confirmed that the attack targeted areas where civilians were living, leading to casualties and property damage. Emergency services rushed the injured to nearby hospitals as rescue teams searched damaged homes.

Escalating Conflict Between Neighbours

The airstrike comes amid rising tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan, which have been locked in a cycle of cross-border attacks and accusations. Afghan officials have blamed Pakistan for targeting civilian locations in recent operations.

Relations between the two countries have deteriorated in recent months due to security concerns and longstanding disputes along the porous border separating them.

Pakistan’s Security Concerns

Islamabad has repeatedly accused the Afghan Taliban-led government of allowing militants from the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) to operate from Afghan territory. The group, which shares ideological ties with the Afghan Taliban, has carried out several deadly attacks inside Pakistan.

Pakistan says its military operations are aimed at neutralising militant threats and protecting its territory. However, Afghan authorities deny sheltering militants and have criticised the strikes as violations of sovereignty.

Civilian Impact and Regional Concerns

Residents in Kabul are now dealing with the aftermath of the attack, with families affected by damaged homes and injuries. The incident has intensified fears of further escalation between the neighbouring countries.

International observers and regional analysts have urged both governments to avoid further military confrontation and instead pursue diplomatic solutions to address security concerns.

The latest strike highlights the fragile security situation in the region, where civilians often bear the heaviest cost of geopolitical tensions.
