Pakistan is copying us means that our mission is successful: Supriya Sule on Pak sending delegation to the United States

Supriya Sule of the NCP (SCP) on Wednesday took a jibe at Pakistan sending its own delegations to the United States after India sent teams around the world. Indian delegations are travelling the globe to expose the neighbouring country’s backing cross-border terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir which led to the April 22 attack on tourists in Pahalgam.

“When someone copies something, what does it mean? It means that the product is very good. That’s why it is being copied. There was a thought behind MEA’s Operation Sindoor by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, S Jaishankar and Kiren Rijiju. The fact that Pakistan is copying us means that our mission is successful,” Sule told ANI.

India’s multi-party delegations across the world

India has sent seven multi-party delegations comprising 59 MPs and former diplomats to 33 capital cities across the world as part of its diplomatic outreach following the terrorist attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives.

India retaliated with Operation Sindoor which was a targeted strike at terror camps in Pakistan and Pak-occiped Kashmir (POK). This was followed by a few days of military tensions between the two neighbouring countries followed by a ceasefire on May 10.

Pakistan copies India? Sends out delegations

Taking a cue from India, Pakistan on Monday dispatched delegations for a diplomatic outreach to other countries like the US and UK in a bid to seek support following the damages to its airbases and terror targets last month under ‘Operation Sindoor’ carried out by Indian armed forces in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam attack.

The two Pakistani delegations will visit only five capitals, with a nine-member delegation led by former Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto visiting New York, Washington DC, London, and Brussels, where the European Union headquarters is located. Another delegation led by Special Assistant to Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Syed Tariq Fatemi travelled to Moscow on Monday, indicating a special emphasis by Pakistan on engaging Russia.

India and Pakistani delegations in the US at the same time

Notably, both the Indian delegation led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, and the Pakistani delegation led by Mr. Bhutto will be in Washington over the next few days, and are expected to meet members of the US Congress, which will be in session this week. While Indian MPs will return to New Delhi this week, the Pakistani delegation that includes former Ministers Sherry Rehman, Hina Rabbani Khar and Khurram Dastgir Khan, is travelling from June 2-18 to the Western countries.

Surpiya Sule leads delegation to Egypt, South Africa, Ethiopia, and Qatar

Supriya Sule is leading one of those seven delegations of various parliamentarians that were sent out by the government to put India’s side of the story in the conflict with Pakistan in front of the world. Cairo was the final stop on the delegation’s tour that included South Africa, Ethiopia, and Qatar.

In Cairo, Sule spoke about the historical and cultural bond between India and Egypt. “Egypt and India need to work together—be it in the mission of peace, trade, or culture. We are two uniquely placed civilisations,” she said.

The delegation, comprising leaders from various parties, engaged with officials, lawmakers, and civil society groups abroad to convey India’s position following the Pahalgam terror attack in April. Sule said every interaction reaffirmed India’s stance on terrorism.

“To whomsoever we met, all have said just one thing: They are against terrorism, they are with India, and they support India’s Operation Sindoor,” Sule said, thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju for trusting the delegation with this mission.

Talking about the larger objective of the mission, Sule said the visit was about showing a united Indian front. “We have come as Indians here to tell the world what has really happened. It was very unfortunate and painful for us when this attack happened from our immediate neighbour,” the NCP leader said.

She also warned against the ongoing fake news campaign by Pakistani social media. “Many fake news and propaganda have been flooding in, and when we told all those whom we met about the truth, they all said this delegation effort was a good step.”
