The CSR Journal Magazine

In a video that went viral recently of a gynecologist from Baghpat district in Uttar Pradesh, talking to a 22-year-old woman from Rajasthan, who is expecting her sixth child, allegedly due to continued pressure for a son, has sparked debate online.

In the video posted by Dr. Pragya Tomar of Spandan Hospital in Baraut, the physical and emotional toll of the woman who is expecting a sixth child is evident. This is a proof how families even in 2026 are prioritizing male children over maternal health.

Doctor Raises Alarm Over Pressure for Male Child

In the viral clip, the doctor asks the woman her age and is shocked to know that she is 22 and already has 5 children and is expecting a sixth one. During the conversation, the woman shared that she had five children and her was child marriage and she was 15 or 16 when she got married. “My eldest child is 8. I have 4 daughters and 1 son.”

When the Doctor asked, why despite having a son, they are wanting more children, the husband of the woman said, “One son is not enough, we want more sons, at least two sons. More male children mean more earning members of the family.”

Pointing out at the condition of the woman, the doctor said that she is 22, but she is suffering, she is feeling dizziness and breathlessness and this is due to no gaps between pregnancies. “If this is continued, then it can lead to serious health complications,” noted the doctor.

Doctor Warns of Serious Health Risks

In the video, Dr Tomar captioned, “Is it right to endanger someone’s life in the desire for a son?”, this highlights and raises concerns about the existing social pressure on women to have children, even though their health does not permit, just to carry forward the family lineage. This video has gone viral and has received 40 million views and even drawn strong reactions.

Some social media users have pointed out the remark of the husband, some have raised concern over the women’s wellbeing. One wrote, “Why continue a lineage when you are unable to provide food, shelter and clothing for your family?” Another wrote, “She’s only 22 with five children already. Instead of caring about her health and wellbeing, they still want more children just for a boy. It’s sad to see this mindset still exists.”
